I know! Frodo was just going to be a hobbit companion. speaking of that, the character 'Trotter' was going to be named Peregrin, and was going to be related to Frodo i believe. So what is your favorite, or one of your favorite Aragorn moments? whether it be books or movies.

I think it's cool in the movie where he fights off the ringwraiths. I can't remember some others... Oh yeah, in the battle of Helm's deep he's pretty cool. (I know there's something else but I can't think of it).

The ringwraith scene was awesome, i think thats the first scene Viggo had to film, and if i understood the commentary right he was pulled in at the last minute to play Aragorn and only had two days to prepare for that part. I liked when he was traveling to Rivendell with the hobbits and they were tryin to get used to him. And I agree, Helms Deep was a really good scene with him, you got to see the leader side of him come out.

To be honest, I am not as huge Aragorn fan as I used to be. I like him most from the books when I was 17 but now I am more into Hobbits than elves and humans. I still find Aragorn very appealing and great constructed character but not my fave anymore. Pity for Strider, methinks My fave scene with Aragorn is when he is fighting with Ringwriths and when he meets Hobbits.

Well, its hard not to like the hobbits. I find Merry and Pippin to be cute, especially when they are causing trouble! But Aragorn is my number one. The first movie was playing on some of the HBO movie channels one time and my friend convinced me to turn it on to see Orlando (we had just seen the first Pirates and were in a Orly mood), and I saw Aragorn and I was hooked for the rest of the movie! plus I was like 'Orlando who?' I had a replica of Anduril but my little brother broke it, not happy at all about that at all....

So, Aragorn and Gandalf are old friends, but does anyone know when their friendship began? Did they set out on a journey or mission together, or did they just happen to meet somewhere? Anyone know the history between the two?

Huge Aragorn fan here. He became my favorite character because when I first saw LOTR, his mysteriousness was what caught me. For some reason that is appealing to me. lol. I liked Aragorn even more when I became more familiar with his backstory. It is very interesting and full of detail. and angst. Angst does me in. Oh and plus he was hot. Concerning Aragorn and Gandalf. Since Gandalf and Elrond knew each other well, Aragorn and Gandalf could have easily met in Rivendell. Gandalf would have known about Aragorn and his true identity. Also, both payed much attention to the Shire, each guarding it in their own way. So they were both (alot of time) in the same area or dealt with the same area. It is said in the books (somewhere, haha) that he and Gandalf traveled together for some time and fought against the evils of Sauron, and Aragorn gained much wisdom from Gandalf. Also, I think it is at Gandalf's request that Aragorn hunt down Gollum. Plus, Gandalf is just one of those people who knows everybody. Anyways, that's my thoughts. I would have to dig out the book and do more research on it.

of course they could have met in Rivendell! why didn't i think of that? obviously late nights online clouds my thinkin! And I agree with you Erucenindë, Aragorn is really hot. and all dark and mysterious and kind but can get all angry and 'grr argh' when orcs are around and yeah, he's just hot. Yes, Gandalf did send Aragorn to hunt down Gollum, and Aragorn didn't enjoy his time with Gollum either, lol. And yeah, I have the feelin that Gandalf pretty much knows everyone in Middle Earth!

I love the darkness that surrounds Aragorn when he was pure Strider and was helping the Hobbit in the way to Rivendell. He was real Ranger, a silent hero. I think he lost something in later books and even if I still loved him, I adore him mostly as a Strider in FotR.

There's this mysterious aura with him as more of a Ranger. When he becomes King, there's this different feeling to him. I kind of like Strider best too

I agree that Strider was a dark and mysterious character when he was first introduced in the story. A Dunedain Chieftain leading some Hobbits through the wilds of Eriador while avoiding the Ringwraiths. I differ in your opinion on whether he "lost" something in the later books. To me, when he did battle with Sauron through the Palantir, and by his strength of will wrested it away while declaring his heritage to Sauron, this changed him, and I see it that this had 'aged' his somewhat. I see him as having greyed around the edges and the lines on his face became more distinct, with the wisdom of his heritage showing through evermore. He was then on his way from being the Mysterious Dunedain Ranger of the North, to becoming King of the United Realm. Changed, but not in a negative way.
