:o He started writing a sequel ? !
There should've been one.
I just think that the will of the ring was so great that in comparison nothing could ever be as 'evil' again.
It just seems to me that Tolkien intended to portray the fact that Morgoth/Sauron's power was the climax of corruption - insinuating that the evil that the Fellowship managed to overcome was unthinkable.
The dramatic fact that it left it's mark on Frodo, eventually forcing him into the West suggests that the power of the ring was the ultimate, and final evil ever to lay in Middle Earth.

I love Hobbits - Frodo saved Middle Earth - Frodo and Sam. That's all there is to it for me. Of course the rest of the Fellowship needed to do their part but it was Frodo alone who could complete the task.

Hobbits are definately pure of heart, and enjoy the peace (taking it for granted, definately) but I think they lack a realization of the world around them. Some would say this a good thing, but I believe most would call this a bad thing.

I love hobbits nonetheless!

Thats a bit sweeping.Hobbits could actually be real people while the Elves don't share our characteristics, and thus, I don't like them as much as Men or dwarves.Hobbits have weaknesses and worry about things here and now rather than talking philosophically or trying to perfect something like an art.

I think that the Professor, the great JRR Tolkien (all must hail) put in Hobbits for that sorta taste of innocence.

I think in the naivety of the way hobbits think and act, they represent possibly the greatest good in our world, a goodness without complete knowledge of the outcomes, but goodness for goodness' sake.

I'm cool with some people not liking hobbits. That makes my love of them even more special.

What I don't get is that.. if you don't like hobbits, are you like "ugh" every time a scene with either Frodo, Sam, Merry, or Pippin is on?

I don't hate any of the hates, or even dislike them for that matter. In my mind the innocence of hobbits is the most appealing to me because they aren't magical, a creature, or just plain human.

No, actually, I'm not. Bilbo, Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo are all 'okay' hobbits in my mind, because they know and recognise what others do to make their blissfully ignorant lifestyles possible. That is the single most irritating thing about hobbits, which I believe I've stated a few times in both this thread and a near mirror of it elsewhere on this forum. The hobbits take their lifestyle for granted. I. Hate. That. It is so frustrating. When people take things for granted (I know, I do it too from time to time) it irritates me to no end.
