Boromir, Aragorn. North and South. Breeland. Discuss anything MEN.

They have to be my favorites out of overall characters. Sarn Ford is an awesome place to go in the video game War in the north.

I guess one of my biggest disappointments of the PJ fan-fic movies is the total deletion of the Dunedain Rangers, and the northern kingdom of Arnor.

The tale of the Two Kingdoms of Numenor in Exile is one of the great tales of Tolkien. I have a sort of obsession with the Northern Line and the history of Arnor. 2nd on my list is the southern kingdom of Gondor, and the Northmen of Rhovanion are quite intriguing. They mingled to the men of Gondor, and were where the Rohirrim came from.

I have always liked the dunedain as well. Their history in the silmarilion aleays fascinated me, though I know no history of them outside that source.

I always wanted to go live with them in their city. Lol

Faramir was my first book crush. He just sounded so cool.

Isn't feramir in the book more so than in the movie or opposite? I can mot remember which it was now.

I'd say he was the book more. There is a whole (lovely) chapter with Eowyn in the Houses of the Healing.

That is what I was thinking. I always did like his character. It would be mice if they had added more of him in there. The fact that he was able to resist the ring speaks a lot of his character I think.

I think I could relate to him in a lot of ways... Stuck where he must make such a hard decesion. The fate of his people in his own hands and the "acceptance" of his father so closely within his grasp.

Yes, a whole chapter! All this got PJ-reduced to a minute clip in the EE. The Book Character Faramir was quite the insightful and upstanding individual, and was an able field commander as well. This was discarded pretty much in the screenplay.

Yes!!! Faramir is my all time favorite Man in the trilogy! He was the nicest, sweetest, most polite guy in the whole thing. Aragorn was pretty amazing and everything, but I love how Faramir was totally okay without power. He differs completely from his brother in this. That isn't to say that I don't like Boromir, but his awesomeness was mostly concerned with winning battles. Faramir's was in resisting the Ring. He seemed really smart as well, and I loved that, just cause I like smart people!
Yay Faramir!!! :kick:

I agree. Faramir is definitely one of my favorites. (Besides being good looking in the movies), it does say a lot about his character that he was able to resist the ring and let Frodo and Sam free. He seems like a strong man.

I know... I was SO mad about the way Faramir acted in the movie. I felt like they made him ordinary to go with the "Men are weak" theme, but they just ended up making him a victim of his father and you just pitied hime the whole movie. It made me so upset!!!! :grr: >:(

Yeah, I can see how they did kind of do that. I always loved faramir, though. I saw him as one of the strongest of men. Him and aragorn are the only two that openly resisted the ring.

At the same time, though, itnwould have added so much to his character. They could have at LEAST put it in the extended version. Hm....

I find that the men seem to be a more versitile race than the others. The elves basically just sing and tell of the old days and make some beautiful homes for themselves. The dwarves just make things. Hobbits mostly eat. Men in the other hand like to do all sorts of things, though they do have a weakness for power. They come from all over (e.g. numenoreans, black numenoreans, wild men, men of Gondor, men of Rohan, men of the Long lake, Rangers, etc.), each section of men do their own completely different thing, and there are almost no two groups that agree on most things. I love all the diversity in the race of men. I think that might be part of the reason they are the only ones left after the elves vacate.

I agree. I've always had an interest in the Men of Middle Earth, which is reflected in my somewhat narrow choice of RP characters. Mainly my focus has been on the three houses of the Edain and Numenor, but lately I've been focusing more on the 'middle' (Rhovanions) and 'lesser' men who allied themselves with Mordor and Isengard and suffered for it (Dunlandings, Haradrim, Easterlings, men of Khand). One of my current writing projects is a post-war-of-the-ring piece based on Khand, a little-mentioned group of men whose land is between Harad and Mordor. I think the only book mention was during the Battle of Pelennor Fields where they are noted as being fierce fighters. Also, I have two RP collaborative writing projects on the Gondorian Kin Strife and how inherent societal racism led to the great spilling of blood between brothers and sisters of Gondor. Interesting study the clans of men are in Middle Earth!
