The story is a sad one, but in the end I guss it does have a happy ending, because Celebrian and Elrond are reunited, but sadly Arwen is not. So, to me it is a sad-happy ending, if you follow me.

Btw, don't worry about your English hun, it's just fine! :)

Elwing, Celebrian's story is in the timeline in the appendices. But I found it somewhere over a year or two of idle browsing. Huge they are! Huge! :)

Yes, the appendices are really big, but very interesting. I always found Celebrian's story very, very sad.

Oh, the Appendices. You should have told me that!! I think I've seen it there before.

Celebrian's story has a bittersweet ending, because the family is reunited except for Arwen.

Ok, I'm sitting here with The Return of the King in my hands. I'm opening to the Appendixes......I'm trying to type with one hand....I'm looking........I can't find anything about Celebrian in the Appendixes of the Return of the King. Sorry guys.
Arrghh, Elwing I was waiting on the edge of my seat for your post!!! Anyway, can anybody fill me in, what are we trying to find in the appendices? The story of Celebrían?

I found this on EoA in the entry for Elladan:
"Many centuries later, the twins' mother Celebrían went on a journey into the south to visit her own mother, Galadriel, in the land of Lórien. In the Redhorn Pass, she was captured by orcs, and tortured in their dens. Elladan rode with his brother to rescue her, but by the time they reached her she had received a poisonous wound. Though their father healed her, she would not remain in Middle-earth, and sailed into the West the following year. After this loss, Elladan and his brother Elrohir were filled with hatred of the orcs, often riding against them with the Northern Dúnedain."

"After the War of the Ring, little is known of the brothers' fate. They returned to their father's house at Rivendell, and remained there even after he had passed across the Sea. Like their sister Arwen, the sons of Elrond Half-elven were granted the choice of whether to leave Middle-earth for the Undying Lands, or remain there and become Mortal as Men. Elladan had such a bond with his brother that they must surely have chosen alike, but what choice they made in the end can never now be known. "

Sorry. I'll look in the timelines........Aha! In 2509, Celebrian was on her way to Lothlorien when she was attacked by Orcs and received a poisened wound. In 2510, she departed over the Sea.

So there you go!!I found something!

I think I read somewhere that Elladan and Elrohir both chose to become mortal, although for different reasons than Arwen's. But I might be wrong.

Thats really interesting Miri. I think I'll go research that more, although I doubt I'll find a direct answer. :(

Ya, I did I think, too. I think they wanted to stay because they wanted to live as mortals or something.......dunno if that's right..

But why would they stay if it didn't have anything to do with Arwen, their baby sister staying in Middle-earth, when the rest of their kin sailed accross the sea?

They could have reasons of their own, not applying to Arwen.

True, that's right. What I meant was that Tolkien didn't write their stories out (not that I know of) or focuses a lot on them a lot so I assumed that they had no further attachment with/in Middle-earth... but off course I could be wrong... In fact that's a really bad argument, I realize that now!!

Here's my opinion/theory:

Elladen and Elrohir may have decided to stay in Middle-earth for their own reasons, not having anything to do with Arwen. Maybe it did.But for whatever reason, they stayed because something that meant they had to stay was there.

Anyone follow that? I think I'm confusing myself.

That might be it Elwing. All I conclude is that Elladan and Elrohir chose to stay in Middle-earth for a reason other than love.

If only Tolkien could see us now...:P
