I don't think he was weak at all. He went to rivendell to try to get the ring from frodo (as his father asked him to) so he joined the fellowship to try and get it...but not for him self. I think he was just very loyal to his father. *grumbles* darn Denethor.

I think you are wrong. He did not go to the Council to take the Ring. He went to ask Elrond about his dream.

None of them really planned on joining the fellowship when they arrived in Rivendell. It just...happened.

As they all were. But I don't think the Fellowship would really have been the same without him. So I say that in his defense.

I don't think he was either. I think he was fairly essential to the fellowship. I mean, after all, he saved the hobbits more than once during the attack at Amon Hen

I think that he was always strong. He just needed a little bit of guidance.

More importantly, he came through in the end, and he had the humility to ask forgiveness of Aragorn.

I think you said something that it is very important and none of us mentioned it. That says a lot about Boromir.

Well there will always be people who like Boromir and people that will not and the will say that he was a bad person. So I think that it will not end that easy. :D

I think Boromir was strong. He was human, he had flaws- what are people expecting him to be? Part of why I like LotR is the fact that it's characters are NOT Kryptonian, they're capable of failure and so on- note that at the end, even Frodo tried to claim the Ring. All right, so the man was proud and wanted to protect his country. How does that make him weak? IMO, he was used to show that no one is safe from the Ring, no matter how brave and strong they are.
