I voted for a little hard. I read it for the first time when I was only 11 years old and I don't think I really understood it. But now I have read it at least 10 times.

First time I read it, it was difficult to understand, but it was ok. The second time I tried to read it, but got lost quickly so I stopped. That happened with all the books. The Hobbit, though the easiest to read of all three, is still difficult and hard to understand.

Not really, there were a few times, but I'm a pretty good reader anyways. I think the Silmarillion is hard to read.

I've always had a good imagination, so I didnt find any of the books hard to read....

A lot of people are put off of reading the books by the length of the first chapter in FOTR

It was extremely easy to read it in Dutch, but it took quite some time to read it in English. So, yes, it was a little difficult to read FOTR (in English).

When I first read FOTR, I had just seen the movie on DVD. Yes, isn't that pitiful that I hadn't read these fantastic books before that! :'( Anyway after being introduced to the wonders of Middle-Earth, I immediately went to the bookstore and purchased all 3 books!
I read FOTR in 2 weeks and the only really hard thing I had to contend with was all of the names and keeping track of who was who and where was this place! I went out and purchased 'A Complete Guide to Middle-Earth' and boy was that a life saver!! Then I reread FOTR and got a whole lot more out of it the second, third ,fourth .............

Reading the books can be a bit challenging I have to admit. I know for a fact that I would read a portion and have to reread it again!!!
And by the way Inwe Calaelen, I love how you have uncorrupted your love of music, the violin in your signature! :)

I saw the movie first before I realize there was a book. I think I was about 7 or 8...terrible memory...*mutters*

...Anyways...

I bought the book when I saw it cause I loved the movie. Then I tried to read it and I had no clue what it was about so I put it away for a while. But last year, I suddenly watched the film again and right after, I picked up the book and started reading. Thankfully, I understood it a lot better so I'm not at all that dim-witted. =P

I accidentally voted for yes, very hard... but it should be yes, a little. I was 9 when I first read the whole trilogy. I gave up (yes, I know! I GAVE UP. The shame.) when Saruman died in the scouring of the shire.

I was about 10 or 11 I'm not sure when I read it the first time, and it was not hard, for me, I loved it!! Maybe it was because I was always looking to find a book like this!!

I was 8 or 9 when I read for the first time lotr and it didn't was difficult to me because I was so curious to know the end of the story that I read it in a mounth, even if I had never read a book before that.

I said it was a little hard, because when I first read it, I thought the first book in FOTR drug on a bit. It was good, but the storyborad seemed a bit slow to me.

I thought the first book was hard to read because if u zoned out for at least a minute, you were lost, but I couldn't put it down.
