I find In Western Lands to be very sad. It's like Sam's thinking about how happy life had been, and how he can never go back. At least in my mind. |

I think that Tolkien has written lots of very sad songs, and the "Lament for Boromir" is very sad to me, even though Boromir is not one of my favourite characters. |
