OMG Does anyone else have this problem?

I think Dori the dwarf would have been an extremely handsome dwarf in his younger years!

But when I look stuff up about Mark Hadlow he doesn't look near as noble as Dori.

I wish there were pictures of Dori when he was younger, not Mark Hadlow.

Since you guys mentioned the books, do they say anything about Dori that the movie does not?

None of the dwarves are really described that much in the books, so the most we get on their appearance is the colour of their beard or their hood (Dori's was purple). Beyond that we know he played a flute, enjoyed food and grumbled a lot, but was generally a 'decent fellow'. His main role in the book was pretty much to carry Bilbo around, he carries him through the Goblin tunnels and Bilbo grabs his legs when the Eagles save the Dwarves from the Wargs. Mark Hadlow plays him fairly close to the books, though his mother-hen tendencies are a film invention.

Dori's not really noble, he's one of Durins's folk, which means his distantly related to Thorin, but not as closely as Balin and Dwalin or Oin and Gloin. So it's more like he's from a respectable, well off family than nobility.

The Lego Hobbit game probably comes closest to the Dori you're imagining, you can play as a young Dori in the first level and buy him later on. He's a pretty hardcore warrior and you use him to help Thorin when Smaug attacks Erebor :)

Thank you. That isn't quite as much as I was hoping the book would have on him but it is interesting.

Everyone in the welcome thread was saying I need to read the books. This brings my interest up on actually doing so.

Lego hobbit game? I didn't even realize they had one. lol Sounds kind of fun, though.

Hm... the only thing I know other than that about Dori the dwarf is that you rescue him from a goblin camp over by Esteldin in the LOTRO game... lol

I was always partial to Fili myself, but they are all pretty cool. :)

Oh I see... haha

I have never played any of the LOTR games.

It's kind of neat that they put Dori in that game, though.
