I loved Sean in the 2008 “Terry Pratchett's The Color of Magic”, a two-part television adaptation of Pratchett's novels “The Colour of Magic” and “The Light Fantastic” (which I have on DVD with the American spelling “color” :p ). And the ending in film two is a perfect mirror image of Frodo’s getting onto the Elven Ship with the other Ring-Brearers at the Grey Havens at the end of RoTK. And I mean literally mirror-image, sides switched.

It was good to see Sean Astin in Stranger Things 2 as 'Bob the Radio-Shack techie guy'.
He's gotten to be a big boy since that trek to Mt Doom.

Sean Astin’s relative real-life age within the group of four Fellowship Hobbits concurs with that in M-e (the book! I’m not getting stated on Frodo going on the Ring Quest at age 33!), being second oldest – he’s now 46. Dominic Monaghan, now 40, also fits life to fiction as second youngest.

But Elijah Wood and Billy Boyd turn things on their head, as Boyd at 49 is the oldest in real life, Pippin the youngest – and the only one not “of age” yet, being below 33; Wood is 36 and thus youngest in real life, but by far the oldest in fiction, 50 at the beginning of his quest, and so of the same age as Bilbo when the latter set out on his quest (Bilbo turned 51 during the quest – in Lake-town?).

So for any remake of LoTR, new actors would be in order – except that Billy Boyd is now of near-perfect age for Frodo.

Hm – Sean Astin for Barliman Butterbur?
