Has anyone else heard about Peter Jackson planning to Co-direct in making two hobbit films, in 2009 and then in 2011? |

Either way, it's too long. And why would he split it into two of them? That's slightly silly. |

Oh my goodness I DID hear about this only I was kinda wondering when I heard he was doing two films... ![]() ![]() ![]() same actor for Gandalf same actor for Bilbo same actor for Gollum ![]() |

^Ohhh yes... if they don't use those actors I think a boycott would be in order. It would be downright stupid to use different actors ![]() On the up side, since two films are being made... that means that they'll have plenty of time... enough to fit in more of the story. One film is too short, and I don't think they'd even try to condense the book into one film because that would be impossible. There are too many goings on in the book to take parts out so that only one film needs to be made... |

I'm sure he'll use Andy Serkis, and I think he's use Ian Mckellan, but I doubt he'll use Ian Holm, because he's getting on it years. Gandalf always looked old, so it's no matter, and it doesn't matter how Andy Serkis looks, but I seriously doubt Ian Holm can pull off looking 50. |

Well that's a bit of a problem since Bilbo's supposed to look exactly the same... when he found the Ring and when Gandalf came to see him in FotR? And in FotR there was a clip of Bilbo finding the Ring in Gollum's cave, so that'll DEFINITELY cause a massive wave of confusion among those who haven't read the books... ... those nutmegs should have filmed the Hobbit first. ![]() |

Haha, I agree with you about those 'nutmegs.' It was silly. But it's always been the trend to make large movies and THEN make the prequel. |

What a horrible trend! The trend's definitely proving itself stupid in this case... argh. |

Well personally, if making The Hobbit as two films means the book won't be crammed into a 2 hour film, then I am a happy bunny. There is enough in the Hobbit to pull off two films. I believe it was Ian McKellen who was trying his best to fix the rift between Peter Jackson and New Line, so now at least PJ will have something to do with the films, then I think Ian will be returning as Gandalf. Andy Serkis as Gollum goes without saying. Ian Holm. Old and he has recovered from cancer in the past few years. I doubt very much that he will be returning as Bilbo, but make-up on a young or even middle-aged actor who is up for being energetic, could make we the audience believe we are watching a younger Bilbo. I don't find that a problem myself. Even 5 years ago I don't think Ian Holm could have passed himself off younger, or have been able to play such an active role. |

That's very true. I didn't really expect Ian Holm to return as Bilbo, but I hope they'll at least give a valiant attempt to get an actor who looks like Ian Holm. |

One of the rumours I've heard is Martin Freeman. Which after some thought, I felt could be a good choice. The way he played Arthur in the movie version of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy swayed me. Whoever they get, if not Ian Holm. Has some big prosthetic Hobbit feet to fill. |

This has probably been said in another thread, but I saw something that said that Ian Holm's son might be a possibility. I don't think having Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen back will be a problem. |
