I was recently introduced to this site by a member here on the forum, Seren.

It looks like they put a lot of work into it and I was impressed so I thought I would share it with you all. :)

I know! It would have been.

So much so that I guess the lady who runs it is now planning to do the same for the hobbit trillogy movies. I can understand that.... though it would be neat if she would. (Or someone would)

Yeah she's not going to do it for the Hobbit films. She states her reasons why here: http://www.amagpiesnest.com/shiny_thoug ... f_site.htm

Which is a shame but reading her third reason, I don't really think something of this magnitude will be needed for the Hobbit soundtracks. The sheer amount of marketing around the Hobbit films, and all the associated tie-in media that's been released, they will surely release a "Music of the Hobbit films" book fairly quickly, rather than waiting nearly a decade to cash in on that specific fan base like they did with the LotR music. But that's just my personal thoughts.

I suspect you are correct Seren. I am surprised they did not do the same for the first trilogy. A lot of people are going to buy it for the hobbit when and if it comes out so it would make sense that they would make it.

They did release a book called The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films: A Comprehensive Account of Howard Shore's Scores by Doug Adams which also came with the Rarities Archives CD (recorded music of different versions of some of the music along with pieces that didn't make the final cut). (It's an amazing book, by the way, but quite pricey. I paid over £30 for my copy and it's currently 50 quid on amazon). It was released in 2010.

The amazon blurb says " In 2001, Adams was invited by Howard Shore to observe and document his work on Peter Jackson's motion picture trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. This book is the culmination of almost a decade of writing and research, during which time Adams attended recording sessions, examined the original scores, and was given total access to the composer's archives.". But I highly doubt they're going to wait as long to release a similar book for the Hobbit films.

Cool! I have seen several LOTR songbooks with music from the movies but not that in-depth.

Yeah, I would imagine you are right about that.
