I'm creating my own freewebs website at the moment. As this is the first time I ever make something with websites and as I've got absolutely no clue how hmtl works, I'm using the easy website builder. But I've got some problems/questions nevertheless:

1.My browser decided to freeze during the registration process, so I only went through the first step where you chose the site's name and a password and give them your email address. Nothing did work anymore and I had to shut down the browser and restart the computer. At that moment I had already received a mail from freewebs that the registration had been successful. But what did I miss in the following two steps? Do you only chose the layout and describe the site there, which I have already done by now? Or is there something concerning premium services and so on? I'm a bit worried right now if the site is still completely free because I have missed those two steps. On my account it says “account mode: easy site builder“, I've got 40MB webspace and 100 MB brandwith, and I've got ads on my site, which would all speak in favour of a free site....

2.On my credit page I have listed those sites from which I have taken images, textures etc. At the moment the links appear in this form: www. -here's the url- .com. But how can I change that, so that only the site's name does appear? I've tried it with text, which works here on A-U, but that didn't work on my site.

3.I wish to provide a link back to my own site (those little 100x35 pics, which are linked to your page). I've already made the pics, but how can I turn them into linked pics? And should I load them up directly on my site or on an external host? Which saves brandwith?

4.Should I load up my header directly on my site, or at an image host? Which method does save the brandwith better?

5.Are the add-ons/ widgets (like e.g. the visitor counter, the tagboard etc.) also free or are they premimum services?

6.I've seen that some of you have a little box with "webmistress“, "version“ and so on on their sites. How can I add that?

7.Is it advisible to have your site listed at Google?

Thanks so much in advance to whoever answers (some of) my questions!!!

Well I've never used Freewebs so I can't really help you but there are a few things I can *hopefully*help with. :-)

2.On my credit page I have listed those sites from which I have taken images, textures etc. At the moment the links appear in this form: www. -here's the url- .com. But how can I change that, so that only the site's name does appear? I've tried it with text, which works here on A-U, but that didn't work on my site. -

For that you will need this code.

<a href="----Site Url Here----">---Site Name Here----</a>

3.I wish to provide a link back to my own site (those little 100x35 pics, which are linked to your page). I've already made the pics, but how can I turn them into linked pics? And should I load them up directly on my site or on an external host? Which saves brandwith?
-

You can do that using this code.

<a href="-----Site Url Here-----"><img src="-----Image Url Here-----">

If you want it so when you click on the link a new page opens (I recommend this) you will need this code.

<a href="-----Site Url Here-----" target=_blank"><img src="-----Image Url Here-----">

And if you want it so when you hover over the link, the name of the site appears you add this.

<a href="-----Site Url Here-----" target=_blank"><img src="-----Image Url Here-----"border="0" alt="Telpeath's Gift">

To see this code ^ in action go to http://www.geocities.com/barneyhamster/Nominated

5.Are the add-ons/ widgets (like e.g. the visitor counter, the tagboard etc.) also free or are they premimum services? -

If you go to Bravenet you can get guestbooks, counters and all sorts of things for free. If you go to Saybox you can get a tagboard also for free. I use both of these sites myself. :-)

6.I've seen that some of you have a little box with "webmistress“, "version“ and so on on their sites. How can I add that?
-

I think that is only if you yourself are making a layout for your site. I don't think it can be added using a custom Freewebs layout.

I would recommend to uploading all your images to somewhere like Photobucket and Imageshack. I'm not sure though, but I am presuming Freewebs woks like other sites, and you do have bandwidth, so usuing an image host rather than Freewebs, will use less.

Hope that helps you! If you need any more code help or anything, just let me know. :D

^what JF said. If you have absolutely no idea about html, you might need a bit more information.

Yep, that's the free version, don't worry about that.
I don't remember every single step from freewebs registration, but basically, you just choose your template (one the free layouts that freewebs provides) and start building your site, so it sounds like you've done the right thing.

You have to use the code that JF gave you above, but you can only use html in a Raw html Paragraph. That means:
Go to Site Editor, and where it says "Paragraph Type" change from Paragraph Editor to Raw HTML Paragraph. It may look confusing now, but you just have to add you link where you want it and then switch back to Paragraph Editor. Hope that made sense. :duh:

I recommend not to upload them directly at freewebs, but on an external host like Photobucket or Tinypic. When you have your pic url, same thing as above: Go to Raw html Paragraph and insert JF's code.

4.Should I load up my header directly on my site, or at an image host? Which method does save the brandwith better?

You have to upload the header directly, it won't work with an external link. (Go to: "change site titles+image", you can upload the header there.)

5.Are the add-ons/ widgets (like e.g. the visitor counter, the tagboard etc.) also free or are they premimum services?

I use the tagboard and the guestbook and they are free, so I'm quite sure you can use all the Add-ons for free.

You can write it directly on your page, but the box-thing will only work with html sites.

7.Is it advisible to have your site listed at Google?

Is it possible to have it listed at Google? I've never heard about that.

Hope that helped a bit! Feel free to PM me for any further questions (I think I can explain it better in German :) )
Good luck!

Thanks so much to both of you! You've been a great help so far. I'll try all that out and see if it works. :) If I have any further problems, I'll post again...
