Post subject: | Judging Thread for Elves Poem Contest |
Sorry for the delay, but here it is: the judging thread for the Elves Poem Contest. Here's how it'll be done: There will be four 'official judges'. To make a good official judge, you must: 1. Have knowledge of the Elves. 3. Be able to give good comments on one's work. 4. Be a good writer (how else would you be able to know if the poem was good?) Please PM me if you would like to be an official judge. Don't want to be an official judge but still want to participate? You can vote for whose poem you think is the best using the regular voting method: 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place HM These are the contestants: 1. TrueNarnian 2. The Nightingale 3. Caunion the Frost Lord 4. Elenya 5. Lady Erana 6. Rose of Rivendell Here are the poem entries: TrueNarnian: They're leaving Middle-earth. Oh hear the weeping that is mourned by the good earth, see the gentle tears gliding from the eyes. These delicate creatures who beautied the world now have passed away from us. Never to return. Never to dance once more upon the ocean shores. Never to sing again and to fill the wondorous woods with their music. A beauty that has been stolen from me, from everyone, from the world, from Middle-earth. But I dont know why, it makes me sad. I just cant take this loss in, I cant see their ships sailing off, thinking that they'll never come again. I want them to stay, then maybe everything would be okay. Cowards some call them, leaving the War, but light-givers and gift-seekers I see them as. They were the first to wake the wood, to teach the trees to speak. They shaped this world into existence sharing their beautiful works with everyone. But the past cannot be undone, the future cannot be foretold, this graceful race of people must leave us now to find a better life, these fair Elven folk, the Elves of Middle-earth. The Nightingale: Golden-silver water, Reflecting the wooden ships. The hour has come, It’s time enough to leave. They’re leaving Middle-Earth. They say they’ll never return. I watch them leave, Traveling through wood and water, Walking over hills and plains. Going to the sea. A single tear rolls down my cheek. They’re leaving. The Elves have left Middle-Earth, They have gone to the undying lands. Caunion the Frost Lord: Countless ages we have tarried Now we must leave these lands That we have so long cared for To the ships we must go Out time has now come The Elven days at an end The Age of Men is starting To the ships we must go Our people who came before Beckons us from distant shore The grey sea awaits for us To the ships we must go Leaving the woods that bore us Singing our sorrowful songs Answering white gulls' cries To the ships we must go As green turns to gold We must pass and fade Into the west, never to return To the ships we shall go Elenya: Nothing for us here, we leave. The ships are waiting; Grey ships, tall ships Ships to carry us on Far from these shores, Far from these lands, Across the seas To our waiting home. Farewell, white sands, Farewell, green forests. We must leave you Forever. Farewell, bright streams, Farewell, sweet winds Farewell, we will never meet again. Sorrow goes with us, But hope, also; We go to a new life, Though we leave one. Farewell, fair Arda, Farewell. Lady Erana: Let us Let us leave these lands! Let us leave this place forever! Never to return to this land full of hate and war and sadness, left alone with few friends. Let us sail to peace, to the lands of happiness, freedom and love. Never will we return, and never will we forget about the time we spent here. We were born in these lands, it is our home, it still is, but haunted we were, by Morgoth's servants and evil people, not safe anymore. Much we learned living in time of peril and despair. Friends we made, were loved and respected by many. We'll certainly miss them. But we have to go, Our time is up. Let us leave Middle Earth, Let us go to the Undying lands to live among the Valar. There our home now is. Rose of Rivendell: Namárië Once a people, beautiful, wise and fair, Sailed from Valinor to the shores of Middle-Earth, To bring with them wisdom and a dedication for this world to care, And to fight with their powerful light against the dark curse. The days of their spring were full of joy and glory, Battles were won, alliances forged and friendships made, And also their summer was not troubled by any worry, An immortal people with a still lucky fate. However, with the autumn the dark shadow came, The time of the Elves was finally over, Back to Valinor they were driven by a fear without a name, Without them the winter is cold, lifeless and sober. Rivendell and Lothlorien are abandoned and lonely, The halls are empty and without the sound of a single voice, There are still traces that these places have once been homely, It is sad, but this has been the Elven choice. In great white ships they sail towards the west, Their power has long been fading away, A safe haven for them to spend their lives and to rest, Will await them in a world that does not know decay. The Elves have left Middle-Earth forever, But I will always bear their memory hidden in my heart, Their light has passed away to return never, That is why it is so hard for me to see them part. |

I'll vote, but seeing as I don't have any experience in writing poetry, I have no wish to be an official judge. Do you want the regular votes here? ![]() |

Well, I've no wish to be an official judge, as my poetry knowledge is severely lacking, but I'd still like to vote. Do you want us to PM the votes or just post them here? |

Could I possibly suggest that you don't bother with an offical judge? I mean this is a poem contest....not a contest judging the amount of Elvish-ness or correct Elvish information....you could be here a long time otherwise, and I'm sure you'd like this contest to be finished....sometime. ![]() 1st - Rose of Rivendell 2nd - Caunion the Frostord 3rd - True Narnian HM - The Nightingale |

'Abandon' is such a strong word... 'absent for indefinite amount of time' might be slightly more correct! ![]() But now there's 3 votes, 2-3 more would be enough to finish the voting! ![]() |
