What do you suppose the stairs that Gollum leads the hobbits to Shelob where used for and who made them? I could never find out why. :bounce:

*stabs Ea* :-)

I never really thought about that, to tell the truth. I always just thought of them as 'the stairs Sam went up to save Frodo.' Maybe to lead to a treasure room or something, or maybe from there there was a ladder to the roof.

Hey, works for me! What else are they gonna do in mordor for three thousand years while waiting for the Ring to turn up again?

To be honest I like the chisel idea but I've always thought they were a short cut into mordor for some reason.

I don't know about that. Those steps sound to crude to have been made by them.--I thought Cirith Ungol WAS the steps?

Well, I suppose an earlier human tribe before the Numenoreans may have? Just supposition, I suppose.

Well, over time (like, 3,000 years) the steps would get worn out, I think?
