So we've had summer activities about LotR for the past couple of years. I figured this summer we might center it around the revival. I don't know what it would be like.. or whether there's an interest. Some of the ideas I played around with was having a workshop summer for the Revival. As in reviving A-U while the LotR love is growing with the Hobbit in production. I thought we might want to have a more planned revival of the forum as in someone setting up contests in the Contest sections, people starting new grapics battles, the Reading group for LotR over summer etc. etc. To restart the activity on the sub-boards... Or maybe if the Revival team needs a hand we could have people ploughing through YouTube, deviantart etc. for new LotR/Hobbit content for the main site...
Are you interested? How would you like it? What should we do?

Those ideas sound great, Eä! I think we should definitely have a revival that is revival-centred [if that makes sense ]. Perhaps it should be a little more than just delegating people to do certain jobs, like finding content for the site. We could make it into a contest of sorts perhaps.

Well, we will have a LotR reading group for sure taking place in Misc. Book discussion. We'll begin very soon. Other places that would benefit from an organised reviving effort would be the Graphics/contest section (though the Graphics makers cookoff is brewing on the Fanart board) and the RPG section... I agree that Revival work shouldn't just focus on... work.. When I posted it I imagined that the graphics/coding teams might need a bunch of people to help gahtering e.g pictures or new humour, or fan videos. But it seems like most of it has been taken care of now.. Unfortunately, this thread has been too quiet so not sure there's an interest...

I would want to participate in the Revival of the Rings; however, since I'm new, I have no idea what the forum was like before it actually needed a revival. I just have one suggestion for the revival, and please don't take offense, anybody: I've noticed the rather large amount of dusty threads in many of the sections. Some are short-lived threads anyway, though some are just taking up space. Since I'm a neat freak, I would prefer that these threads were just archived in a section all to itself, where they could be readable if necessary. other than that, everything is wonderful. I'll also be rereading LotR this summer, though I might not be able to discuss every chapter due to my being gone for a month (leaving June 9, back July 3). I would like to pop in though when I have a chance... I'm a pretty quick reader, so I should be able to keep up with you all thanks for all the work you do, Eä!

And I would like to help too, if that's possible. The more people, the faster the work gets done, right?

Thanks for supporting the idea. In the past years we have had summer activities in various parts of the forum, like theme contests, summer RPGs, socialising threads contests, and one year I think we had a quiz on LotR. It used to be a lot of fun but we had a lot more active members too. But like I said, things have changed and everything depends on what people want to do. [Alanna, I liked your Reading group banner so much so I shamelessly stole it, please let me know if you don't want me to use it and I'll remove it. I'm really looking forward to re-reading the trilogy and I just finished two other books, so I'm ready. ]

aw you're welcome Ea. A quiz sounds like a lot of fun. How did that work in the past? maybe, because it's a forum revival, there could be one "activity" (or whatever you'd call it) for each section, or at least some of them.

^Thanks. Umm, I don't remember.. I didn't participate in it.. I think those in charge asked a series of LotR questions over a span of a couple of weeks and in the end the one with the most correct answers won.. But I feel I'm missing out on a bunch of important details... Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of doing an activity in each sub-forum/section/board... Like the Book section would have the Reading group, the RPG section would gather the forces around a couple of new RPGs, the graphic makers cookoff would take place on the Fanart board and perpahs someone would start some contests in the Contest section.. etc. etc. But the forum in general has been rather quiet lately so perhaps now is not the best time... The ideas will still be here when we need them.

If you need any help with anythin I'll pitch in, if I know how to do it that is. It seems we need a way to let old users know that the site is comin back to life, unfortunately I dont know how that could be done. Not unless people who still get on here know how to contact friends that have been absent from the site. Anyway, I like all of the ideas, and I hope they work, I dont want to site to die again when I just officially joined!

I was wondering if Member Awards could be held again. I think it was great idea and when browsing old awards I felt that it would be fun to run this again.
And about contest...does official contest of Arwen-Undomiel.com still exist? I mean, it would be fun if Arweb and the site itself (with moderators) run the contest that would be announced stright on the website.
Also, I started new club in clubs section. Hope to see more around. Maybe some call for the members like in contests section?

Thanks Lithôniel, the best way to help is by posting and being active around the site. And don't worry, this site has been going since .. I don't even know how long.. way before 2005 when I joined at least, we will survive! Morgana, the Member Awards will definitely be held again. Once we've updated the site with new content and are getting more and more active members here again the Member Awards will run again I'm sure. They were always very popular. As for official site contests. No they don't exist as Arweb, who used to run them fell into busy-ness, and they won't be taken up in the previous form. However, there will be contests and probably more official-like contests on A-U too. People on the Revival board have talked about how to run them.. If you have any ideas or input here you might go and post on the Revival board as I'm sure it will be appreciated.

*pops in* I hope I'm not disturbing. I've been around AU for a while now and I'd like as an oldie to help with AU's Revival. I remember "The Return of the Rings" events around the forum. We used to have a lot of fun back then - the contests, the RPGs, the organized LotR book reading and movie watching, the Elven ball at the end of summer. I'm glad to see active contests in the Contest directory again. I was thinking these day when it hit me: Hey it's been 10 years since FotR was released. Maybe we could organize few events like the good old times under the title. :Revival of the Rings: 10 years LotR; or something like that. Ignore my stupid titling sense.

Well, basically Return of the Rings is a LotR festival to celebrate the fandom hosted on the forum. It means there will be graphics contests held in honour of LotR, reading groups reading the books, perhaps a movie marathon where everyone watches the movie and then have a massive chat with forum members while watching, the elven ball was held as a RP where everyone was invited. People had prepared weeks in advance and posted pictures of the dresses they planned to wear and what dates they would bring, so really RotR can be everything you can think of. The mod team in general is rather busy with RL-business over summer but if any members would take on the job of organising events I will do whatever I can to help out.
