Post subject:  Graphic Maker's Cookoff 2012 [CHALLENGES]

This is where the daily challenges will be posted! Yaaay! The point of the daily challenges it to challenge you to expand your horizons in graphic making. Last year they revolved around simple techniques, like texture or negative space, but this year Skitty and I got together to MAKE YOUR LIFE A LIVING TORMENT. MWAHAHA. :vampire:

Okay, so maybe not that bad, but these will be a different sort thing than you'll be used to, hopefully. They will all revolve around The Hobbit.

Post your responses to the challenges in your spot on the posting thread under "challenges". If you've got questions, ask 'em.

Challenge #1: Monday, July 23
Crossover!
Make a blend (no smaller than 400x400, no larger than 900x600) featuring a photo from The Hobbit and another fandom.
-Example-
Image
(The Hobbit + Once Upon A Time)
The point of this challenge is to make you work on your blending skills. Generally, images from different fandoms will be harder to blend together. Create your image with this in mind - try to tell a story with it. You will probably need to play around with colors and textures to try and get it to look more natural.

Don't forget to have fun! It's not a competition; don't stress yourself out too much! :D

Sounds fun! I think I'll do a Hobbit and Wizard of Oz combo... I'll be back in a while with my blend. :)

Edit: all done! :)

I come bringing today's challenge.

Challenge #2: Tuesday, July 24
Make a banner (500x200 or 700x150) from The Hobbit focusing only on a character's eyes.

-Example-

This challenge will help you with your composition skills, as you'll have to find a way to creatively place your image. And, yes, it's okay if there's a bit of hair and nose showing! Just make sure the main focus is a pair of eyes.

Post your entries under the Challenge heading in the posting thread! :)

Challenge #3: Wednesday, July 25
Black & White + One Color
Use only this image: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2886/h ... ll6000.jpg (it gives you a lot of variance, so it's possible)
Make a banner (700x150 or 600x200) that is black and white with only one color accent.
---The color accent MUST be from the warm side of the spectrum (red, orange, yellow)
This may require you to fiddle with coloring, because not a lot of that image is warm.
---It is an ACCENT. Therefore it should only be in one or two places, the majority of the image should be black and white.
---You CANNOT have text be the only color accent. It must be in part of the image itself.

Apologies for the lateness! I've been travelling.

Challenge #4: Thursday, July 25
Artist's Renditon
Before we had these lovely production shots from the movies, the only art for The Hobbit was of the traditional kind. In honor of the artists' visions that have inspired the movies, create a blend (between 600x400 and 900x600) featuring illustrations by Alan Lee or John Howe.
Pictures can be found here for Alan Lee and here for John Howe.

-Example- [click for fullsize]

This challenge will require you to step outside your comfort zone with coloring and textures, as drawings and paintings react differently to Photoshop than photos do. You may have to experiment a bit. ;)

Challenge #5: Friday, July 27
Shake up your style!
Create a banner (700x150 or 600x200) done in a style you don't normally use.
---For example: I have used textures 4 times (yes, I counted), so for this banner I layered on those textures like nobody's business.
---On the other hand, I used hardly any color correction or gradients, my preferred method
