Post subject:  How Do You Make Videos?

I've recently had some good ideas for making videos, and I'm wondering if someone could tell me what programmes I need to make them? And if I do have the programmes required could someone give me some hints and tips?

Thank you! :-)

Well to make them, what I use it Windows Movie Maker. Go to My Computer>Program Files>Windows>Windows Movie Maker (Or it might be on your start bar ;))

Your movie clips will have to be Windows Media Player files, sadly Quicktime fils and Realplayer files won't work with WMM. If you computer can play DVDs, you might be able to rip video using Windows Media, but I'm not sure. Or you could buy a DVD ripper. Here you can download a trial version: http://www.aoamedia.com/dvd_ripper.htm

What I use for clips though, is other people's music videos. It's not the best way to do it, because you can't always get the clips at the length you want, or all the clips you want, but it works. Here are some links to some other great music video makers:
http://www.geocities.com/freelancerrh/lotr.html (Freelancer: has some awesome LotR, PotC and HP vids)
http://www.theargonath.cc/videos/mv/mv.html (Uruvial has some really nice LotR vids, and a couple PotC)
You could also just look up like "LotR music Video" on Google or something, and if it's downloadable for Windows, it will probably work! :)

I hope that helped JF! :)

Thanks for that EA. :-)

I do have that programme (yay!). So can I make my own clips? I mean say if I wanted the scene of Faramir and Eowyn can I make those clips myself? I have something called Cyberlink Power DVD which I use to get clips for animated avatars...so could I use that? And how do I get a song over the clips?

Sorry for all the questions. :P

'Tis fine.....Well if the clips work on Windows Movie Maker, then yes you can use them! :)

For music, put your clip on the movie maker and there should be a slot where it shows the video, and another slot where it has the sound. Right click on the sound of the clip and push 'Mute'. That should take off the sound of the clip, then to put on music, drag whatever music you want (It needs to be a Windows Medias, iTunes or Jukebox file) and put it in the slot for music!

I hope that made sense! :)

Oooh...ooh..thanks for all the info EA...that should work fine...can't wait to try it!! :D

EDIT: Hmm...it says I need a "codec" or something to be able to import videos from my computer to the programme. :-(

Huh....I really don't know what 'Codec' is.....does it say where to download it, or anything like that?

Hmm...I don't think it did. When I have more time I'll try it again. Maybe I did something wrong. :-)

a codec is basically an update for reading files. if you go to microsoft.com. it's one of those automatic updates, and if you can't fix it by going here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... aker2.mspx and updating, then you can search the error code message and see if anyone else had the problem and knows how to fix it. :)

and if you want some tips or whatever, I think I could help ;)

my videos are -here- if you want to see them.

lady_Ëarwen, I don't know about your first problem, but for your second probem, open up the DVD in your computer DVD player first (Mine's Cyberlink Power DVD, I don't know what yours is), and let it play the film. Then try and open it in AOA again, it should work. ;)

If you don't own the DVD or don;t have a decent ripper, you can use a Youtube downloader to get them off there. The quality isn't as good though.
