The elves were not having babies during the lord of the rings because they were leaving. But you know the elves are born as babies because that is talked about in the silmarillion...so we'll never know what a baby elf would look like. But we can imagine; I'll bet they would be so cute!

"What a sweet grace of fortune! Brown as a berry she was, dark was her hair; small and slim as an Elf-child, none could mistake her!"

Wow sissy! That's umm...a strange legend.I never read a myth for the Elves like that!
In uur mythology we have similar legends.

In Bulgaria we call the Elves Samodivi. In English wood-nymphs or fairy(but I looked in the dictionary and I saw that the Bulgarian word has in English the meaning "Elf" too).

The wood-nymphs live near the rivers or in the deepest woods. They come out night usually and sing and dance. The nymphs have great healing powers too.
According to the Bulgarian mythology, when a sick man or woman stay overnight on a glade, where wood-nymphs sing and dance,he or she will be healed from his/her sickness. This sounds very easy but acctually it isn't.
It was very hard to find a fairy glade, because the nymphs were afraid from the humans and the people theirself were afraid from the magical powers of the fairies. The people believed that the nymphs usually use their powers to harm them. And that's why it was a braverly to search an enchanted glade.
Not only spending the night on a fairy glade can heal you.If you pick herbs from the glade on the right day,the herbs will get healing powers too.
On the bulgarian celebration "The Annunciation" the old ladies go to search herbs.According to the belief on this day the wood-nymphs come on the earth and the herbs receve special healng powers.

This is what I know about the wood-nymphs.I looked in wikipedia but there isn't much. All that I wrote is from what I remember. My granny used to tell me such stories.

So, we're talking about the origin of mythical elves, are we? Interesting topic and info... I think I'll be reading this discussion more than contributing... but still, we're finally doing something useful here! Wow! *amazed*

Is it not amazing?

That was a pretty cooli story, though. It was definently interesting, at the least. I didn't know that there were Dutch myths at all, which isn't all that surprising considering I though that the Greeks and Romans were the only one's with myths for a long time...

:hammer: silly me.

When I was really small, I was just as clueless... 'cept I thought that the only myths were Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Celtic and Chinese. Otherwise, my brain was completely shut off from any other country's folklore and whatnot

I've always loved myths and legends...I don't know WHY, because most of my family and relatives prefer non-fiction.

I'm not going to lie, those are pretty intresting. But I'm not into the whole legend/myth thing. I like historically correct stuff.
Speaking of which, (history I mean) I have so much homework over the summer for my AP classe (Advanced Placement--it's a college course you can take in high school). I just started today and haven't finished the first portion of it. Ugh, annoying.

@Thanks guys!I'm glad you like our myths.
Specialy my story about the Elves(or the wood-nymphs as we call them) is from the first people who lived on the teritory of Bulgaria-the Thracians and their legends are as old as the Greek's.

@Amony: I'm taking a similar thing next year, IB(International Baccalureate).

Canada doesnt have a mythology, we have the Native Americans and there are so many different groups and tribes that it would take me afew weeks to track down all the different mythologies etc. And we had the French, English and Spanish come over with their religions, and thats about it.

I don't know why I am taking it really. It's supposed to be incredibly hard.

If you read the posts, it will give you a hint as to what we are talking about.

But taking AP/IB is really good preperation for university and college, it prepares you for the workload and what sort of work you have to do.
