Hmmm...I think I applied a few pages back, but maybe I didn't, so....I'm joining.
I love Star Wars. Who's you guys' favorite author(s)?
I think Timothy Zahn is far and away the best Star Wars author (and overal Sci-fi author too, but this is the wrong topic for that), with Aaron Allston coming in second place.

I don't really like him in the OT (StarWars fan jargon for Old Trilogy), but he totally rocked in the PT (Prequel Trilogy)

My favorite is James Luceno. Labyrinth of Evil and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader are my two favorites that he's written, though I also love Cloak of Deception (which I'm reading right now). I also love Alan Dean Foster ( The Approaching Storm- my third favorite Star Wars novel ever), Jude Watson (all of the Jedi Apprentice books and all of the Jedi Quest books), Matthew Stover (RotS novelization). As you can probably tell, I'm more into the PT novels than OT novels, but...yeah. I'm an EU nut. Even though I haven't read any of the OT EU stuff, I know what happens in all of them because of research. My absolute favorite time period, though, is anything right before RotS ( Labyrinth literally ends with Anakin and Obi-Wan setting course for Coruscant to end the invasion) or anything during the Jedi Purge ( Dark Lord starts right at Order 66). I'm even writing my own Jedi Purge novel, though it's progressing quite slowly.

Are the books any good?

James Luceno? He's okay...having played Star Wars: Republic Commando and read the Republic Commando books by Karen Traviss, I'm not that impressed by Labyrinth of Evil, or his writing style overall. It seems a lot more young-adult oriented than, say...Zahn's style.
But I haven't read the RotS novelization. Is it as good as I've heard? I've heard practically glowing reviews about it from people who aren't really even Star Wars fans, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it.
And yes, LadyOfRohan, the books are really good, at least most of them are. I wouldn't recommend Galaxy of Fear, though....those are oriented towards six-year olds.

Well, seeing as I'm a young adult, I suppose that would make James Luceno perfect for me I agree, though- Labyrinth wasn't his best work. Dark Lord, however was incredible. I really loved how he managed to get into Vader's head, and the second plot with Roan Shryne was great, too. But, as I said, I love anything from the Jedi Purge, so I may be biased.
And yes, the RotS novelization was as amazing as you've heard. He's a very talented author, and it's really almost like reading a whole new story. I mean, it's very recognizable as RotS, and there'd be no mistaking it for anything different, but it has a lot of depth that the movie lacked, as well as several of my favorite deleted scenes. Basically, yes, it's incredible.
I'm actually still in love with the Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest books, too, despite their being aimed at younger audiences. It's kinda funny when you look at my bookshelves, because you see all these worn-out copies of books that are 300-500 pages long, and then right next to them are all these 80-page books that are just as used. Don't care how long or mature it is. If it's Star Wars, I'll read it.

Lol. Read a couple Galaxy of Fear books, like poor little unsuspecting me did, and then come back and see if you can say that.
How did James portray the Republic Commando squad that got mentioned in Dark Lord? I've heard that there was one in it, but I haven't heard if he did any better with it than he did with the commandos mentioned in Labyrinth of Evil (which is to say, not very well at all).

Umm...I think he did pretty well with it. Don't really want to spoil it, but...yeah. I'd say he did better in Dark Lord.

Mine is Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Then comes Revenge of the Sith. I just like the acting better in tESB. And the actors/actresses.
