Ooh, to answer Nazg's question, I think the others are former scientists who were sent there to keep tabs on those pressing the button, keeping notes, etc etc, and then lost contact with the other scientists, and know are just survivng on the island.

In the episode 'In Translation' (I think) when Sayid shows someone the triangles on the map, my Mum thinks it was the B-thingumabob triangle where planes and the sort used to go misisng when they went within that area.
When I actually remember what's it called I'll do some research to see if any of the things which went missing has anything to do with the events of LOST. Probably not but it's worth a research.

I watched LOST on television yesterday night, it was episode five from the second season or something like that. You see the Others ( well, you can only see their feet and legs) walking through the jungle. Than I thougt, why can't there be four camps on the Island?

1. The head-camp: Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the rest
2. The camp who were in the tail of the plain
3. The camp of Ethan and his friends
4. The camp of the Others from the other side of the island.

And when they don't push the button, will all the Others than come together to murder everyone else?

I just have to say it, I think it is really great what the makers of LOST are doing: We have seen about 40 espisodes, and we still have no idea of who the Others are. We have seen them, but we have only seen their feet...( they were dirty 8) ) and for the rest we don't know who or what they are, the only thing I think is that they are human...
