Yeah, Madame Giry probably would've.
Okay, this is going to sound weird, but I ship a lot of weird things.
I've always thought even if the Phantom didn't get Christine, I always though Meg Giry would've been a nice alternative.

Totally agree. Especially as she didn't seem to be particularly afraid of him and when she went into his lair and found his mask....there was just something about her that made me think she would have completely understood him. I wish we knew what happened to her.

i dont know....
...i guess shes a nice enough girl (in the movie anyways) but ....i guess the phantom was in love with one and one only....it would be hard to love again after all that...im not vey fond of meg...she was annoying in the book....and she wore some....inapropiate things in the movie (masquarade ball...its looked like she was wearing a playboy rabbit costume...mrs.gamgee pointed it out to me) ...i guess shes not one of me favorites, and its hard for me to imagine the phantom liking (not to mention loving) her...although christine wasnt one of my favorites either....i liked her way more than meg, she just seemed a little dumb(not to insult, she was a great character, but dont you think she'd recognize the phantom's voice behind her father's grave after he's been teaching her since she was seven!?)

Well Christine was in a broken and confused state back then. I don't think you could blame her for that.
This is solely based on the movie, mornie. I know the book takes a different look to things. Heck, Meg doesn't even really -talk-.
But I liked how they made Meg's character more active, like Christine isn't really alone in the opera house. That Meg has always been her friend, and a friendly, charming girl. And her voice is also beautiful, in my opinion anyways. Especially in Angel of Music.
P.S. The playboy costume.... well... it was a masquerade. What's wrong with showing a little of what her mother gave her? I would've.

As someone who has only ever seen the film adaptations of the Phantom, I can't really go into each character in depth but I can only say if I like or dislike what I see and hear.
I personally liked Meg, she didn't just stand around doing nothing, we learnt a lot about her and Christine and the general atmosphere of the Opera house. Angel Of Music was very revealing, as I believe we learnt that they were very close but because of the Phantom's tutoring had perhaps grown apart slightly, due to Christine not allowing Meg to be her usual confidant. Which is a shame, as I would have liked more scenes between the two, and I would have liked Christine to actually talk to Meg. There was one particular scene, when Christine was on stage singing and both Madame Giry and Meg were in the wings, and Madame Giry put a hand on her shoulder, looked at her and brushed some of Meg's hair out of the way. I don't know why, but that scene really touched me, it felt so realistic. Perhaps Madame Giry felt or thought Meg was feeling left out, not just because Christine had become a "star" but because Christine was shutting her out slightly. I don't know, I'm rambling now.

I agree with all that you said Johnny's Fan and I felt the same way about the scene with Madame Giry and Meg. It was a touching scene that if read between the lines, was incredibly meaningful. And I just loved how as Madame Giry brushed the hair off of her shoulders, Meg kept staring at Christine, and the expression on her face was of pure happiness for Christine. That Christine got her final chance of stardom and Meg (even though left out a bit) was truly happy for her friend.
And it speaks volumes for Meg when we see her in the future/present coming back to the opera house during her (no doubt) busy schedule, and even LET Raoul take highest bidder on the clapping monkey.

Yep. That was indeed Miranda Richardson. It'd be kinda scary to find Madame Giry living for so long. She is not only Foster Mom Extraordinaire but she has secretly found the Phantom's fountain of youth!

That is why I was confused as I immediately presumed it was Madame. That's why I'm thinkng if Christine was 62 when she died (roughly) and Raoul was say 65 at the time, then Madame must have been at least 36 in the film because she had Meg so then in the present time she must be......you can probably imagine my confusion.
They should have got the young Meg to play the old Meg. That would have saved my poor brain.

Lol, thing is young Meg would've looked too young! As since they didn't do Raoul to do old Raoul.
Or, y'know --- since all throughout the present-flashes, you hear Raoul's voice singing, I thought maybe they could've done a moment where we year Meg's sweet voice.

Kit you are astounding me here! I could have sworn that young Raoul played old Raoul. But a moment of Meg singing would have been great - not just for those who thought it was Madame Giry - but also to see what her thoughts were.

I agree. Everyone knows that Miranda Richardson played Madame so to have her play her duaghter when older.. ....that's just plain dumb.
...sing once again with me, our strange duet, my power over you grows stronger yet, and though you'll turn from me to glance behind, the Phantom of the Opera is there inside your mind....
Sorry about that! I was testing my typing skills whilst listening to the CD!! I could keep up quite well actually.
