I'm sure you can (Lhunardaien will respond when she can), but you may want to tell us who your favorite dwarf is and why you like them. It's always a good idea to give a reason. Maybe even a favorite scene? Just a few suggestions. ;-)

Welcome to the club legolin and aralas :-D It's good to see some new members around here!

I think most of us would agree that the Dwarves singing in "the Hobbit" were pretty awesome, but maybe you'd like to explain what was so nice about it? ;-)

^ He's also a complete sweetheart outside the Goblin's lair, when Bilbo is being rude. He doesn't get angry, he just goes along with it and you can tell he's so sincere and kind.

The songs though. Thorin's deep voice in the Misty Mountains one. :swoon: That scene wasn't nearly long enough; such amazing deep dwarf harmony.

I don't like the version in the credits though; it's too... I don't know, fake-Celtic for my tastes. Hopefully the feature song in the next two films will be better.

That's not the "Misty Mountains" that plays during the end credits but another song called the "Song of the Lonely Mountain". Though some of the lyrics are similar, they are in fact two different songs. I always put it on repeat a few times.

As for the Misty Mountains song, everytime I hear it, it's like I'm in some kind of trance, whether I'm listening to it on the soundtrack or watching the scene in the movie. This is the first scene that comes up when I put the DVD in (the DVD that contains the actual movie) and then it just shifts between different scenes until you enter "play movie". It's kind of a nice thing to look forward to. ;-)

Lhun: You may want to update my name on the first post, since it still has my original username. There's also a similar thread farther down that needs either locking or deleting, since the reason this thread has some new members is because I provided a link to it that brought it back to the first page.

Actually my very favorite part is just before they start singing. If you listen very carefully you can hear several voices humming two lines of "Misty Mountains", even before Thorin starts singing. That deep, earthy sound is exactly what comes to mind when I think of singing Dwarves. I also liked "Blunt the Knives", but that was for a totally different occassion.
"Misty Mountains" seems more ancient, more like Dwarven legacy, like a secret they don't just share with everyone..

Clearly I have given this way too much thought, or I just might have listened to the songs way too much

The more you know  Shows how much I listen to it (that's never) if I can't even tell. I figured they just played with the lyrics a bit more.

I like the improv-ness of Blunt the Knives, though; how they just start singing and apparently they know each other well enough to sing along even though they seem to be making it up on the spot. :)

Welcome to the club! :)

Yes, Blunt the Knives was also pretty awesome. After reading the scene in the book for several times I wondered how they would possibly show it on screen, as it could have been a bit too childish, but it was the perfect combination between entertaining and funny. Also nice was how they used sounds of clattering crockery and cutlery and stamping Dwarf-boots as background music in the first part
