Um, I think that there would be more than 100 Rangers left at the time of the War of the Ring, though I'm not sure how many more (maybe three hundred?). After all, they are the remnants of an entire civilisation, so it's not like they'd all just die out. Of course, I could be mistaken, and the number could be lower.

Somewhere in between the two I think, you honestly can't tell, they are not mentioned enough.

Yeah, though there could only about 50-100 left. Do you think there were any female Rangers?

No. That is something I am very convinced about. There is nothing in The Lord of the Rings that would convey that thought. The only woman who actually fights is Eowyn, and she's not even a Dunedain.
Luthien doesn't fight, and Idril doesn't fight, and Aredhel doesn't fight. So far as we know, Gilraen didn't fight, nor did Morwen, nor did Niniel.

WellI must say that I reckon its at least 100. 30 dunediam went to the pellenor and they wouldnt have sent half of th epopulace of Dunedain. I think that is it Aerandir said 300 pure blood edain around. Thats a somewhat realistic figure I feel lol.

That's better!
I want to talk about the female Rangers, even though thier job was to stay home, bear childern, all the womanly stuff, do you think they were taught to fight so if the men were away and their villiage was attacked they need someone to protect it?

Hmmm intersting concept. I think in old Numenor that such a thing wasnt heard of bt I spose in a survival situation they would possibly be taught to wield spear, sword and bow. But not expected to wield them in th esame manner as th erangers, as they would have been a village's last line of defence.
Also why did u say Thats better ?

I think that the women could fight. That makes sense to me.

I never really imagined the Dunedain as having villages. They are wanderers, after all. I've always thought of them as working out of Rivendell, while the men wander in the wild for long periods of time. Regardless, I imagine that the women knew how to handle weapons (to an extent), but didn't necessarily fight--only in self-defense. I think the notion of them riding out to battle is ridiculous. Which is why a lot of the RPGs on this forum get on my nerves.

I don't remeber. I think I was pleased with my sig or something. Interesting reponses you guys. Since they were wanderers, the women would have to learn to fight.

It grates on my nerves, regardless, though. Especially when the women seem to be at least as strong as the men. That really annoys me. (like when a female warrior blocks a two-handed overhead strike with one hand). Guys tend to be naturally stronger than women (at least in arm-strength), so technically it should be impossible for the girl to do that.
Still, since we're not here to discuss why female Rangers in RPGs and Fanfictions get on my nerves, let's move on, shall we?

All right, though it would be fun talk about why RPG and Fan Fic Rangers get on our nerves . They don't bother me. If you lived in Middle-Earth, what race of men would you belong too and why? And it can be any age.

I would defintely by Numenorien. Though I can't spell it, I've always admired that race.
