I use "eh" all the time... I can't help it :P

I'm not saying that I dislike the flag or anything... I just think the design could have been better chosen. Like, I saw a bunch of designs that were made when Pearson was trying to come up with a new flag, and I rather liked the design with three maple leaves instead of one... three would have looked really nice.

Not meaning to offend the people who are completely satisfied with the one leaf though. :erm:

I haven't ever been to Alberta, but I live in Ontario, and I like it.. Niagara Falls isn't the only thing nice about us... we also have the capital city of Canada and really nice places... Stratford (where Loreena McKennitt lives!!), not to mention the places that actually have forests. Really, the only place I don't like in Ontario is Toronto.

but the problem with the 3 leaves, is that it could of been percieved(actually it was percieved) as the English, the French and everyone else, the Single leaf means a united Canada, and that was very important, because at that time, Quebec had a lot of seperatist movements.

Toronto rocks...

we had a 10 on the UV index a few days ago, shows you what global warming is doing to Canada, we haven't had a UV index of 10 in 60 odd years....

Hmmm, I guess. I haven't really travelled much around Ontario. Crazy, eh? :-D I've been to all the other provinces (seen quite a lot of them), many of the states, but not travelled around Ontario. You're right, though. Ottawa is great (especially on Canada Day!). But the Niagara area bores me. Maybe that's because I go there every week... *Shrugs*

Dark, Queen of Angmar, just wondering, but what is Global Warming doing to Canada? I mean, yeah, it's getting hotter, and the ice is melting, but should we all be really worried about this?
Now, I'm not really too informed in the Golbal Warming topic, so my opinion probably doesn't have as much weight as yours, but bear with me.
Do you think that Global warming is a result of polution alone? I agree that polution has a part in it, but what about the Ice Age? Temperatures changed drastically then, and there was no polution at that time. Couldn't that just be what's happening now? *Shrugs*
( Am I allowed to say all this? It isn't politices, right? Oh, well, you may ignore me - like you need my permission to do so! :P)

^Call my Darky, 'tis easier

No, its not politics, as long as we dont go into the politics side of it. I think that global warming is affecting Canada, it is a lot more noticable because we have the the Northern Territories that are seeing the ice coming later, staying a shorter time and melting a lot sooner. Hot and dry areas are getting hotter and dryer, the coastal areas are getting more frequent storms, and the temperature is changing. Sure, the temp of the world is going to change over a series of many years, and pollution is only speeding up the process.

If we had lived during the Ice Age and had the technology we have now, we would of sped it up, or something to that affect. The climate is always going to fluxuate, its the natural rythms of the planet. Humans are adding to those fluxuations, making things hotter in some places, cooler in others. It's a real threat, and as Canadians, we have a duty to do what we can to slow and/or stop the process. I could go into the cutting down of forests and the destruction of our wild spaces but thats too politicy I think.

Well, there's my two cent, make of it what you will.

Thanks for answering my question, Darky. I shall have to think over it for a while. Hmmm... As far as I can tell, you're saying that the prolem's not that the climate's changing (oh, and is it Global Warming we're afarid of, or Global Cooling, or a bit of both? :P Sorry, I'm not making fun of you in any way Tis a somewhat serious question, it just sounds funny) but how quickly it's changing. Is that correct? But, does it really matter how fast it's changing? If it's going to change, does it matter how long it takes? I feel really stupid about asking this, but how long did it take for the world to begin the Ice Age? Is it the concern of floods that makes us worry about the changing climate. And lastly, is the climate really changing that much over the course of say, a year? Not that I'm an expert, but the temperature seems the same this year as it was last year. If anything, we got a colder winter this year.

Sorry for all these questions. I've heard a lot of other peole argue about this (soem in a less then civilized way) but I've never actually talked to anyone myself. You're my first victim! ;)

Yeah, it's actually climate change, which is the more correct term. Because you get cooling and heating up. The Ice Age alsted a very very very long time, there were two I believe, the original big massive huge one, and a little secondary wave that didnt do a whole lot. You really cant measure noticable temperature changed over the course of a year, maybe you get .5 of a degree change etc. but you need to take the temp over a five year period, or a ten year period to see a really noticable change.

You see, climate change is affecting you already, actually, its probably just normal. The earth goes through temp changes, that is very normal. But what people are worried about is by how much, how long before the temp changed 2 degrees a year, colder or hotter.

Yeah, I'm a bit meh about the dollar too.

But as for global warming - I'm one of those people who thinks it's basically way blown out of proportion to scare us into feeling guilty. I mean, think about it. We've only really been recording temperatures for maybe the last century, and what with however long the earth existed before that (which depends on whether you're a creationist or an evolutionist, but we won't go into that here because it borders on discussing religion) that's not a very long time at all. I don't think many of us are old enough to remember, but 50 years ago scientists were predicting another Ice Age. And now they're saying the world is getting dangerously hot? I just don't think it's very reliable. Another thing we have to remember is that nature is always changing. Species are ALWAYS going extinct, and not because of humans by a long shot. Nature isn't static. Maybe the climate is changing, but maybe we, like animals, have to adapt to it, and it'll be back to 'normal' (whatever normal is) soon. Fluctuation isn't a bad thing :)

I could really go on about this for ages...someone stop me...

Are we really the only people that say "eh"?
People act like we we're born with the impulse to finish every sentence with "eh" or something....

Other people use it as 'hey'. *Nods wisely* See, we might say, "Good movie, eh?" whereas they say "Hey, good movie." It's my theory. It's LIKE 'hey', except we use it at the end of sentences.

...right. Now wishing I had exchanged the $55 of American money I had *before* the exchange rate skyrocketed. Oh well.

Is it a very regional thing? Because I have NEVER met a Canadian who says "eh".

It it wrong that my interest in Canada is solely things that somehow relate to The Weakerthans?

I don't know if it's regional or not... I just know that pretty much every single person living in Ontario (where I live) says "eh" no less than 60 times a day. I can't really imagine using any other word that means the same thing. :P

Nah, that's not wrong... it's actually a good thing! :D I've heard loads of people tell me that Canada spews out the worst singers/bands ever. Not entirely true... we also have Loreena McKennitt <3
