Are you learning Quenya or Sindarin? :)

Sorry folks I wasn't here for a while... I was very busy with school :(

@Eariel
I prefer Quenya too! You're right, all these mutations in Sindarin are confusing *g*

May I read one of your poems? Then I'll post one of mines :)

Goheno nin mellyn, forgive me for crashing un-invited... but I was wondering... the idea of the club isn't it to speak Elvish...?

Maybe it was, but this isn't to realize.

First, we don't speak all the same elvish languages and second, it's actually not possible to communicate in elvish. ;)

But what about an elvish poem... It's in Quenya. I wrote it in school when it I was bored, so I didn't have any dictionary and I think there are a lot of wrong forms and words and so on.

It's about a man and a woman who have to leave their home, and the woman doesn't want to go.

Úrë tulë márenna

Nauva i nauva vanimelda
Calassë máruvamme oia
Sië i mornië alántië
Encenuvammë estel ar oialë
Manna merelyë vanya ?
Vanya anarenna ya tulala?

Ai i mornië na lumbulessë
Ú-istanyë tana essë
I metta tulë márinyanna
Ar massë Valaron eruanna?

Estela, estela, mettanna estela
I melme, i Valar, ilyë estela
I nórë lanta morniënna
I estel laita táriënna
Melissenya lë melin
Mettanna an lë tulin!

Hanyan lë mal nai nurulya
Úyë sirë símen indolya
Sië indonya maressë cuiva
Vanyal anarenna túlala
Vanyan isilenna vanyala
Melindonya nauva i nauva!

^I like that, Kemi.

Here's one of mine. Likewise, i'm not sure whether it's perfect Elvish. ;) It's a [s]highly[/s] reconstructed version of Greensleeves. This one's set at the Grey Havens, and it's from my point of view--as opposed to a character's, for example. ;) To explain an unusual name form, "Maura" is, I believe, Westron for Frodo, so that's what I generally use in Quenya, too.

Arta Ear Anar lanta--
Caita cirya mista:
Upolil mi Arda vanta--
Or' men lume rista.
Eque Maura: "Ava naina--
Ard' Hastainas quelin:
Rato nauvan entintaina--
'Rene elye melin!"

Maura Anarinya na,
Maura nin Elemmir':
Maura oi meluvan,
Ar man ara Maura?

Cenan arelen mi lome,
Menelesse sila:
Hehtan Ard' mi elendome,
Olorissen wila!
Vanya elen, ninn' a tule--
A calany' ammelda!--
Wiluvan yo le mi sule
Tenn' autuva nyeve telda.

Maura Anarinya na
Maura nin Elemmir'
Maura oi meluvan
Ar man ara Maura?

Nin a melis, TariVarda!--
Nas eanyo ire:
Erye melin la ily' Arda--
Liss' orenyo lire!
Lire nin, mi Endor morna
Tiruvan Numenna,
Ar ir' mi Ard' nauvanye lorna
Wiluvanye lenna!

Elye Anarinya na
Elye nin Elemmir'
Elye oi meluvan
Ar man ara elye?

Welcome! :) Another really good site for learning Quenya (my own tongue--so to speak--btw ;) ) is Ardalambion.com . They have a downloadable course, from which I learned it.

Suilaid!

I am trying to learn Quenya and Sindarin, i know a little bit of Sindarin, but not a lot. I would like to know them bouth a lot better. Vowels are pronounced simmilar as in Croatian, so it's not very hard to pronounced for me, but still... it's not easy, especially becouse i have to translate from english to croatian and then try to learn. But it' elvish, so I dont find it hard :)
May I join?
