I found a beautiful version of The Sil at the library. It was a large book, hardcover, and it had the most beautiful pictures in it. I have never seen it in a bookstore.

I do not have the book and have never gone back to that library. I have never seen it in a bookstore. It was a rather large book...bigger than 8 x 10. Sorry, that's all I remember.

Hm... Dang. Lol. I thought you meant the library was selling it and you bought it. My mistake.
I might look online. It sounds really nice!

I also found the 30th anniversary edition. If you google that you come up with all sorts of cool images.

Sorry, but I have no recollection of the year of this book or anything else for that matter. All I remember it that it was at the library and as I paged through it, I found the pictures to be quite beautiful.
I have not been back to that particular library in years and my local library does not have it.

My library had the trilogy and the Hobbit...all bound in leather with moire front pages and a ribbon bookmark. The pages are edged in gold gilt. They are second editions and in really good shape. I was able to get all four at a sale for $25 the set. I love them....(even though they have the library stamp in assorted places)

That sounds really cool, too! I have never even seen books like that. All I have ever seen is the typical versions that come out in walmart or what not. I have always loved leather bound books and leather covers.

Out of curiosity, how many of you have a complete set of The History of Middle-earth (HOME)?

Not I. I used to have the Silmarilion but it was actually my grandmother's and it got re-claimed... I had the children of Hurin and the lost tales (or thought I did) but before I ever read them I was informed in no uncertain terms that those were my sister's books and they too were re-claimed. lol

Jax, your Mandalorian banner is really cool. Who's that on the left?
I have all of The History of Middle-earth except for Morgoth's Ring, The War of the Jewels, and The Peoples of Middle-earth. Kind of a bummer, too, because that lack has killed a few interesting discussions I've had with friends about Tolkien's writing, when they could discuss material from those books and I hadn't read them to respond. :/

Thanks. . Honestly I am not sure whonitnis. Just a mandalorian picture I found on google search. Lol Loved the picture, though! Yeah, I have had that a lot. There is a lot of material indon't know because I read so little. I know more about some things theough hearing it in those conversations. I have learned to, instead of talking aboutnit with them, ask them questions about it. Keeps conversation going and I learn at the same time. (So long as they don't mind my endless questions).
