Still waiting for more members.

I'll join. I love geography. Its about the only subject I can reasonably expect to get an A* in at GCSE. I live in England, but I find pretty much anywhere interesting. I find the physical geography far more interesting (volcanoes, earthquakes and the like) than the Human stuff. (settlement, and things like that)

OMG. we won't make any projects, essays etc. It's just for fun. I'll prepare some infos because i like it. And you... I think that for example Curunir knows something about his country - Finland and he'll write it here (for example about the saunas :P). I guess you know something about Canada, Beri (without preparing infos). That's the point :). I think that'd be the easiest way, but if you have different ideas, just write.

Yeah, i've got some time today, so there's something about Finland:

The Republic of Finland is a Nordic country in northeastern Europe, bounded by the Baltic Sea to the southwest, the Gulf of Finland to te south
and the Gulf of Bothnia to the west. Finland has land frontiers with Sweden, Norway and Russia.
Today, Finland has 6 administrative provinces (lääni, pl. läänit).
Image

1. Southern Finland
2. Western Finland
3. Eastern Finland
4. Oulu
5. Lapland
6. Åland

There are 187.888 lakes and 179.584 islands. Saimaa, one of these lakes is the 5th largest in Europe.
Landscape is mostly fllat with few hills. The Highest point is the Haltitunturi - 1.328m (4,357ft).
Finland is one of the few countries in the world that are still growing. Owing to the isostatic uplift that
has been taking place since the last ice age, the surface area of the country is growing by about 7 square kilometres (2.7 sq mi) a year.
The climate in Southern Finland is a northern temperate climate. In Northern Finland, a subarctic climate dominates, characterised by
cold, occasionally severe, winters and relatively warm summers.

A quarter of Finland's territory lies above the Arctic Circle, and as a consequence the midnight sun can be experienced.
At Finland's northernmost point, the sun does not set for 73 days during summer, and does not rise at all for 51 days in winter.

And now the flag and the coat of arms:

That's all i've prepared. Hope Curunir knows more :D.

What can I say more? Yea at summertime the sun doesn`t even go down at all and at winters the days are from roughly 9.00 - 14.00 or 15.00 so not long..

or even less I think, not really paying attention to all that..

And it`s no wonder finland is called the land of thousand lakes, but in anycase Åland is a demilitarized zone(no military troops allowed) and a... darn I don`t know the term.. oh yeah.., but they are Autonomous. Almost everyone speak swedish(as their mother tongue) there and there was actually a debate between finland and sweden to whom it belongs. The league of nations decided that it belongs to us...

*mocking laugh towards the swedes*

excuse me...

Well history I shall leave be...

and just to throw this at you since you might find it somewhat interesting..

In Poland the two most popular things from Finland are Nokia mobiles and Santa Claus :D.

And some photos from Finland (great!)
http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Finland/

BTW. I think Geography club should have a banner - similar to Curunir's History club banner :P
