Post subject:  Aragorn's son

i have seen some banners with Aragorn's son on it. i have to say i wouldn't mind seeing more of him. :-D

i haven't read all the book but does it say if he becomes king?
i know Arwen has daughters and one son, but sometimes you can't always get that in the movies.

i should do a story about him? *thinks* yeah i should do that. :duh:

Yes, he becomes king. If he's the oldest, which it's fairly certain he is, then he'll be king.

I don't know an awful lot about the characters after the time of the ring to be honest. I would love to research into it but at the moment I don't have any spare time!

Eldarion's Aragorn and Arwen's only son as they had several daughters. Also as Aragorn says that "Our son, Eldarion is a man full-ripe for kingship" (or something similar :P) It can be assumed that he's their first child, and the eldest child always inherits :)
It would be cool to learn more about him though! :-D

Alassë hit the nail on the head with that answer. It's true. Traditionally in a monarchy the eldest, male child will inherit the throne. Just take the Tudors for example. Edward was the only male therefore he was first to inherit the throne. If he had had an older brother, that brother would have inherited the throne followed by Edward. Next comes any other heirs in order of age.

I don't think their names are known, at least they are not mentioned in LotR or the Silmarillion... :confused2:

It's always assumed that Eldarion was the first born.

Because he's always referred to first.

"Aragorn and Arwen had one son, Eldarion, and a number of daughters."

I believe Eldarion was the first child. And he did become king after Aragorn. the names of the daughters are unknown. PIck names you like the sound of :D

Well, actually in some monarchies the heir to the throne is the firstborn son, regardless of any older daughters, only if no sons are born - or if they died - and if there are no other immediate male family members, the girl may be acknowledged the ruler. :P
Hmm I remember reading about the Queens of Gondor in the Silmarilion... there have been female rulers earlier, but I don't recall the circumstances...

I don't think Gondor had any female rulers mainly because the Gondorians/Numenorians have always been a man's nation and the Rohans and the Gondorians have always held the women and children of highest priority meaning the century old tradition of men ruling and protecting their kinsmen.

I believe you are right about Gondor not having any female rulers Kit, though I wouldn't stake my life on it (please correct me if I am wrong)

However, the Numenorians had a couple. Three to exact, they were, in order of ruling: Tar-Ancalimë, Tar-Telperiën and Tar-Vanimeldë. Tar-Miriel should have been the fourth queen of Numenor, but she was usurped by Ar-Pharazon, the golden, who brought about the downfall of Numenor by attacking Valinor.

Sorry, you're right, I meant the Numeroneans...
It's been a while since I read the Sil, and I didn't bother to look it up probably. Thanks for the corrections! :P

Grrr....Darrell beat me to it.

Gondor did not have any ruling Queens, though obviously it did have Queens. In Gondor, the crown went to the Firstborn son, never the daughter (unless it just so happened that in the several-thousand years of its existence, no king of Gondor had a daughter before he had a son).

I'm sure you can find more about Eldarion on the web or in the Peoples of Middle Earth, I havent read the entire book yet, but I know he's mentioned in there.

He does become king, and rather important. As it is was during his reign that the book Pippin's grandson or great-grandson (?) compiled from the Adventurous Hobbits stories and books in the Red Book of Westernmarch was transcribed in Gondor, added to it was a story written by Faramir's grandson Barahir aka the tale of Aragorn and Arwen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thain%27s_Book
