Post subject:  What Happens to the Elven places
When the Elves leave, is it true that there habitats [lothlorien/mirkwood etc.] disappear! I hope that's not true! Awww :(

Well their habitats aren't going to disappear but I'm pretty sure that they would lose a lot of the "grace" they have because the Elves will be gone. See the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen--"...and she went out from the city of Minas Tirith and passed away to the land of Lórien, and dwelt there alone under the fading trees until winter came. Galadriel had passed away and Celeborn also was gone, and the land was silent."

They dont Fade as in they disappear completely, but time has effect there. In Lothlorien, Nenya held back ravages of time. with that power gone, time stepped in. The elven places would not fade compley but as Fieril said thye would lose their grace.

Hmm..I never thought about that. This is a great topic. Do you think Men would rebuild these places or leave them be? :bounce:

I think Men would probably leave it be... I'm not sure they'd risk going into Mirkwood. I don't think they'd be able to rebuild it without the Rings of Power, and it would be a disaster if they tried to make Rings to rebuild it!

But wouldn't the men sort of build up their courage to go into Mirkwood if they wanted to see these elven places so badly?

I spose they could, but they were still rebuilding Gondor so that takes priority I suppose

hate to say it... but men are sorta meddlesome, ya know? so they probably wouldn't just leave them be.

How in the world could men rebuild Lothlorien? It's not like you can 'build' a tree, after all. They could keep Caras Galadhon intact, but it would eventually be just another city, except in the trees. It would lose some of the 'beauty' that was there when Nenya was present.

Mirkwood would also still be there, physically, but the 'magic' of the elves would be absent.

I think that's a great shame.

Would any other race have the power to make these places their home or would they simply be marks of the elves left behind in splendour.

They wouldn't be places of splendour after a while...they'd decay just like everything else, it'd just take longer. And yes, I'm sure.

quite abit would be chopped down for firewood and made into farms and gondor would have inherited the industrial age technology of sauruman.in the books there was still hobbist but they where a marginalised people like the remaining elves,leading a hidden existance.poor people hiding in forrests.

It's sad, but that's the way JRR planned it I thikn. The Elves could never be matched for beauty or grace, both in body and work. Only their power kept Lothlorien safe, and after Galadrial left, that power was gone, in addition to the power of her ring.

there would be a town with a small park called lothlorien eventually.most of its people wont know why its called that.
there used to be a freehold heath were i live and the modern block of housing is where a bomb dropped in ww2.i only know because i looked it up.

.....but saying that the forests would be cut down and Gondor would inherit Saruman's industrial ideas seems a little bit presumptuous, don't you think? It's not like it can be proved. It might be likely, but not certain.

I agree with Aerandir. I don't believe that Aragorn or his immediate descendents would allow the Elvish places to be destroyed. After all, he spent his youth in Rivendell. And Arwen is Elvish. Besides which, gathering firewood doesn't equal chopping down Lothlorien, at least in my opinion.
