Yes, that's a very good insight. But anyway, Gandalf said that line to Denethor at the beginning of RotK. You've got a point though.

I don't remember that . . . If I remember correctly Gandalf didn't want Denethor to know Aragorn was coming, so when does Gandalf say that to Denethor?

I go with Tolkien on this one and think War of the Ring is a better title. He believed the title his publishers gave it gave away too much of the story and let you know (or at least guess) the outcome of the war. "War of the Ring" or some other title would have created more suspense.

^I can't remember exactly where. . . it was in the movie, I know, in one of the TV spots, that's what Gandalf said something similar to that, saying to Denethor: "You cannot deny the return of the king! "

I know those weren't his exact words, but I'm only going by memory. :bye2:

I remember seeing it in the movie, but never reading it :confuzzled:

I've looked for it and haven't found it, I guess it's not there, but if someone finds it, can you notify me? thanks.

The whole story is about good vs evil, the destruction of the evil "One Ring" and restoring peace and a KING to Middle Earth. So I'd say ROTK is the best name for the third part of the trilogy.

 Not nessairly, it's mainly about destroying the ring and thr return of the king is just that rightful person taking the crown

Which aragron is undecided about because he's worried that the ring will corrupt him and he'll end up like past generations.

I still stand by War of the Ring.

I think Return of the King is a better title because every great novel has to have SOME forshadowing in it, I mean some peple would just give up if they weren't given some hope that there would be a good ending.... War of the Ring seems to me to be an alternate title for Lord of the Rings, just like the Philosopher's Stone was an alternate title for The Sorceror's Stone. Plus...for people who don't know the characters all that well, it could mean the return of n e king, not just Aragorn, like the return of a king for the elves...or the return of a king for the dwarves, someone who coldn've changed the course of history in the book. At least they didn't call it "Return of the king of Gondor" or "Return of the Elessar" 8)

:bye2:

you're right, eowynshieldmaiden, "Return of the king of Gondor" or "Return of the Elessar" would have been a lot worse, I never looked apon it from that aspect.

The Return of the King of Gondor? Ummm, I don't think I like that title very much - it's too bumpy. Doesn't really roll off my tongue. :bye2:

Right. And it's too awkward saying it, like the words don't flow together as much as they should. I think the "Gondor" part is out of place. :bye2:

I agree. I would have preferred the War of the Ring. RotK gives away the ending and WotR is what Tolkien actually wanted to use and who knows LotR better than Tolkien?
