I finally finished the Lord of the Rings today. I'm not much of a reading person so it was quite an accomplishment for me. I definitely enjoyed Return of the King the most. My favorite chapters were Houses of Healing, The Black Gate Opens, & The Scourging of the Shire. The reading of the books gave me just what I was looking for & that was to tie up loose ends that I felt was there after watching the great movies. I only watched the movies for the 1st time in March 2010 so I am still a new fan. There was obviously changes made for the movies but after reading the book all the way thru I thought peter jackson done a splendid job making the books into movies. If i could have one character that was omitted from the movies it would have to be Glorfindel who was actually the one who helped Frodo get to Rivendell & not Arwen. On the Blu Ray commentary Jackson says this was the best way they could figure to introduce Arwen to the story, It doesn't bother me, just an opinion. One of my reasons for enjoying the Houses of Healing chapter is it gave a detailed story of Eowyn & Faramir falling in love. When watching the movie you just see them look at one another & smile. Plus I had no idea they were in the House of Healing. I could go on & on but I'll finish with saying I absolutely loved the books. I am reading the appendices now. I also plan on reading the Hobbit shortly now also. Great Books, Great Movies, Great Times!!! |

Most Precious Gollum, now that some time has passed since you finished the books, do you have any further thoughts on them? Do you like them more or less now that the immediate excitement has worn off? |

I do not know how I am just now seeing your response but maybe it's best as now much much more time has passed and let me say my excitement & love for the books & the story is greater today than it's ever been as I am constantly digging & piecing together things from the appendices especially after now that the Hobbit has been released as they are so helpful in putting together all the things about the Necromancer & other things. These books are just the greatest thing ever in my opinion. 1 thing awesome about the books is when I watch these movies things sometimes really stand out and makes me want to find more out about the characters. Just a few weeks ago did I become very intrigued about Denethor treating Faramir so badly. And I never knew until going back to the books that Faramir's mother died when he was only 5 & Denethor was left as a lonely bitter man......so this is just one nice gold nugget of many I have found & many more are sure to come. I could have never realized what a treasure chest of info it is & I plan on sifting through it many more times.
