Many people agree with you about that, saerwen. However, because you've already had two people point out to you why Aragorn and Eowyn would never work, I'm just going to say that: In the movie Arwen is portrayed as a "damsel in distress", but everything that Larael said about Arwen disagrees with that. Am I making any sense? Please tell me if I'm not. :-D

I think their wedding was a discrete one, with mostly Elves and people close to Aragorn. Personally, I'm not much into the Aragorn/Arwen thing and I think he would have been better off with Eowyn, but I get the feeling that the wedding was very passionate. I mean, how long have they waited for this? And everyone around was telling them it was impossible...
Elrond and Arwen must have been quite sad never to see each other again though. I'm not an Arwen fan, but I have to admit that staying in ME was a hard choice (personally I would have gone straight to Valinor :P).

I agree with you Larael and Firiel. That is exactly what I think, too. and I think that Eowyn's story (not the going to war thing) is very realistic, because this is something which happens in real life very often I think..

It was held in Rivendell and there were tons of white flowers everywhere and Arwen was in a beautiful gown that was flowy and pretty. Aragorn was dressed in his armor still... ow!!

Just a thought: Should we start new topic entitled, "Does Arwen stand up to Luthien?" or something along the lines of that.

Arwen doesn't compare to Arwen because she can't. She is different from Luthien in many ways. Can we all agree on that?

I think the wedding would have been very romantic and intimate, and I always imagined that the vows would be said in Elvish because it's such a beautiful language. There wouldn't be a crowd of people there, probably Elrond, Legolas, Gimli, Sam, Frodo, Pippin, Merry and Gandalf. Faramir and Eowyn would be there aswell and I think that Eowyn would be very happy there actually, considering what happened between her and Aragorn. I also think the Elves who came with Elrond would be there, but apart from that it would be a fairly small guest list. There would be lots of slow dances and it would all be very romantic and I think there would be kissing because weddings are supposed to be about love and I think that the couple would be very comfortable with the people around them.

^Arwen's character and history is barely fleshed out in the books- it's impossible to say that Luthien had "more"character than Arwen because probably no-one but Tolkien knows what Arwen's real personality was like. :P He didn't elaborate on her very much! I agree with Firiel Luthien and Arwen are very different people-Tolkien says that too! I read somewhere that even if Arwen was like Luthien it wouldn't haved helped a lot with Aragorn because his "mission"to be king was his own, and could only have been achieved by him. In the movies especially Aragorn's struggle is overcoming his self-doubt- would Arwen magically making her hair long and singing beautifully have helped that? :P lol he just needed some encouragement!
Basically all the characters in the Silmarillion do appear more brave etc. because with all myths and legends the past always have the heroes and heroines doing amazing things. That's why I think a lot of the characters in LotR pale in comparison to those in the Silmarillion. :)

 Sorry I'll get back on topic! Yeah that would be so sweet! And gandalf could have brought fireworks- or would that have been so passé after he became Gandalf the White! :P

^lol! yeah! But it wouldn't be a massive wedding though- Arwen arrived on Midsummers eve and they got married the next day so it wouldn't be very grand as they had little time to prepare!

This is how I see it as well. Very much like myth and legends of our own history (Greek mythology and Norse mythology for instance). The battle between good and evil is always fiercer in the myths when the world was young and the gods walked the earth and interferred in peoples lives.
However, I also think that the characters in LotR are more believable, they have strength and strong personalities but they also have flaws, just like modern people, so it's easier to relate to the LotR characters. But I think it's great the way Tolkien was able to create both.

Lady Raine of the Rangers wrote:
My impression of The wedding would there would have to be a lot of singing and tears, most of the weeping done by Elrond, followed by a fancy meal and some dancing.

I'm with you on that one, except for Elrond's weeping...
Food, singing, dancing and drinking - and they would probably repeat it over for about a week or so.. until the rum was all gone :drunk:

Well, I have said this through my forum labled How Arwen's Marriage is Unexceptable, I didnt like the marriage. I would have loved to see Aragorn marry Eowyn, not Arwen. Arwen is too, perfect, for Aragorn. That is my opinion and I hold to it!
