I'm sure the ones who survived went into hiding also.

Most likely those who survived went into hiding, but you never know.

Maybe some became 'friends' with the Gondorians. ~_^

I think some of them are dead, and others are to another place somewhere in Middle-Earth to hide there

Maybe orcs are still in this world, waiting for revenge...

I agree with y'all. I think they ran away and hid.

I believe that they went into the mountains or something and lived there in clans. They would obviously fight one another becasue that is what they have been taught to do. The scary thing is, mayby the orcs could reproduce and create more *shudders*

The Orcs that survived the Battle at the Black Gate I believe that they went to the mountains into tunnels and lived in clans as Master of Moria said. Probably most of them were chased and killed but some of them must have survived.

they would have comsolidated their power bases and waited till they where strong enough to have a go again.in the hobbit tolkein says they build up a military industrial compex under ground in later years.

It is unlikely that the Orcs would set out to battle again after the breaking of Mordor. I believe the only time after the War of the Ring they marched out in significant numbers to war was at the End of the World.

The men of the West did have minor trouble with the eastern and southern allies for a short time though.

Most the orcs probably died. The remainder would've hidden until a new Lord found them. At the end of Lord of the Rings, there's no mention of all evil being vanquished forever.

In Tolkien's letters he talks about starting another story, set 100 years after Aragorn's death. But it was the same sad story all over again, men become so soon satiated with good. Soon Gondorian boys were playing at being Orcs and plots full of sorcery revolution outcropped while kings became as bad as Denethor or worse....Tolkien said it wasn't worth doing.

Looking at it through Tolkien's eyes I can only immagine the Orcs arrising once more to harrass men. All it would take is a powerful and charismatic man with a lust for power.....

He would always influence everyone in a bad way, and mingle joy with grief.

Yes, that's a good point. I think it's also because there will always be evil in the heart of Men. Unfortunate, but true. Tolkien might even say something like that in the appendices. I don't have my copy of RotK with me at the moment, so I can't look it up. At any rate, I know he does say that even though Sauron has been defeated there is still evil in the world.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the appendices, but rather elsewhere, perhaps in HoME or tBoLT, or The Unfinished Tales.

But that's very true, Aerlinniel and Sinbearer. Even with Sauron's defeat, there's no way that the world would keep relatively good. It would slowly degrade once more into darkness.

Well, it is the only thing from HoME that I've seen you quoting in the last week or two....:P
