I don't know. I think that Elrond really did love Aragorn almost as a son, but almost. He certainly didn't belive that a mere ranger was enough for his daughter. However, after aragorn became King, and became King through his amazingly courageous and heroic actions, I think Elrond truly realized that Aragorn was good enough for his daughter, and that aragorn was the thing in the world that would make his daughter happiest. Elrond loved Arwen very much. When you love someone, you want what's best for them, even if it's not always what's best for you. That's what Elrond had to face, and I think he knew he made the best deecision in the end.

He would have realised that the defeat of Sauron was helped a lot by Aragorn and that aragorn ahd proven himself a true man of the west. His deeds ahd shown to Elrond that he would make a good king an dthat combined with his daughters love for him, wass too greta for him to withstand.

Everyone always jokes about how Elrond is overprotective, but he will never see his daughter again. That always makes me really depressed that they never see each other. Ever. Even after Aragorn proves himself, it must have been upsetting.

I agree Princess of Ithilien. It had to be very hard for Elrond to give up his daughter. He clearly loved her very much. The great thing is that he loved her enough to let her go. He knew that she loved Aragorn and that Aragorn loved her. He wasn't selfish. He let Arwen choose what would make her happiest, even if her choice wasn't the one he was happy with. that's real love right there. Elrond was a cool guy. :P

Read the books. Then it's more obvious how perfect they are for each other. And since it's true love, who gives about who's prettier?

^Who's prettier?

Yeah, Tinuviel's Tears. I don't think I ever thought about it that way [tee hee. "Think I thought"...]. Elrond must love Arwen an awful lot to let her choose to stay with Aragorn.

I'm confused about what you mean by "Who's prettier?" too. Did somebody mention something about whether Arwen or Eowyn was prettier? That really doesn't apply at all, since Aragorn and Arwen were made for each other. It wouldn't have mattered if someone prettier than Arwen would have come along, although, unless Luthien came along which is impossible, there really wouldn't have been anone prettier. Aragorn would have been with Arwen no matter what.

By the way, thnaks Princess of Ithilien. I'm glad you agree. :D

I'm not all that interested in reading all 17 pages of this topic (I think I actually posted somewhere towards the start), but I'm just going to make a statement off of EonwesBestMate's post.

Aragorn, in my opinion, is not shallow.

I can't remeber who said it, but some guy earlier on was complaining that Arwen was too pretty for Aragorn and she deserves better. I don't think he'd read the books. nvm.

Oh. That was Telpeath, the guy who started this thread. He used to suffer from chronic Aragorn hating syndrome becauseh was in love with Arwen. He has since seen the error of his ways. :)

Of course Aragorn isn't shallow. I didn't mean to imply that if I did. He would have been with Arwen no matter what.

Yeah, I just meant that I didn't understand where "who's prettier" was coming from.

"Chronic Aragorn Hating Syndrome"? (Falls off chair laughing) Yeh, i did, didnt i! Well, during my beginning days of A-U, I thought that. But through much discussion, and reading the books, i have desided that she was good for him and that the marrage was exceptable. You know how newbies are....... Anywho, i have been cured of my...."Chronic Aragorn Hating Syndrome" (Again, falls off chair laughing)

Just to be clear, the "who's prettier" came from a very old post of Telpeath's who has since been sured of his Aragorn hating as I said.
As for you Telp, I thought you'd abandoned this thread. I'm glad I made you laugh. Looking back at some of the things I said as a newbie...... *shudders* Ah well. At least I'm a little wiser now.
I think we're all in agreement that Arwen and Aragorn were perfect for each other no matter what.
