Post subject: The BBC and animated Narnia films Posted: November 4th, 2006, 1:27 pm |

Has anyone else seen the BBC's of LWW, Prince Caspian, VoTD, and the Silver Chair? And also the animated one for LWW. I've got BBC SC, I like it, it's great, and I am hoping to get the BBC for LWW, PC, VoTD and animated for LWW.
They may be old..but they still are great movies.

I am a HUGE fan of the BBC Narnia films (and have been so since the late '80s), I have all of them on DVD and VHS. I have seen parts of the animated LWW film but I can't say I liked it much.
The BBC versions will always be Narnia visually for me since it's what I grew up on. I have the soundtrack on my mp3 player as well

I don't know, I really appreciate how they stuck to the story so closely in the old ones but I think the casting could have been greatly improved. You should be able to tell between Peter and Edmund, for one We have all the four BBC ones on DVD, and they're okay, but I think the new LWW is a great improvement on the other one.

yeah, lol, the Disney Walden Media one is great. But I think they did a great job on portraying Puddleglum.

I love the BBC Narnia films. They pretty much define my childhood.
I could never choose between the two movies...but the first is very near and dear to me. I remember being seven or eight and thinking Aslan was absolutely amazing..."How did they make him fly, Mommy?" I was a little scared of the white witch and her animated army, but the rest of the movie made up for it.
But the music! That was the best part! I semi-arranged it for the piano just for my own pleasure- it's horrible, but I like being able to plunk it out. Child of Odinn, there's a soundtrack? That's really exciting! I have to find it somewhere.

Nienor wrote: I love the BBC Narnia films. They pretty much define my childhood. Same here. I totally grew up on them. I taught myself how to play the theme on the piano when I was 5 years old and everything lol Nienor wrote: I was a little scared of the white witch and her animated army, but the rest of the movie made up for it. The White Witch from the BBC films pwns the White Witch from the Disney/Walden Media film, in my wee humble opinion of course. The BBC Witch will always be the "real deal" for me. Yeah her army might not be the best ever and I have to admit they did a really great job on that for the Disney/Walden Media version, but Tilda is just a no-no for me Nienor wrote: But the music! The music is incredible! Yes there is a soundtrack In fact you can get it HERE
Here's a video avatar I made of the opening sequence (which I absolutely LOVE):

That's fabulous! I'm listening to all the clips now. I've really got to get this soundtrack.
I love your icon, too- the opening sequence is another of the best parts.

I really want to get the CD as well. Being my immoral and illegal self I downloaded it I only did so though because I couldn't afford any CDs at the time but I definitely plan on getting it as I prefer having the actual CD for my collection.
Thank you The opening sequence holds such nostalgia for me, it's really absolutely incredible. I made a little Narnia video using the opening sequence, the music and various clips from the BBC films, unfortunately it's on my computer at home [in Sweden] though so I'll have to wait until Christmas to be able to upload it for your viewing pleasure

I'd love to see it, if you ever do get to upload it.
You know, I like the new Narnia movie. But when they get to The Silver Chair, seeing Puddleglum replaced is going to kill me.

the only bbc version i've seen is the lion, the witch and the wardrobe and i really didn't like it (why does it always seem to be me putting a dampener on things?!). i can't remember much about it now, but i do remember my entire viewing being overshadowed by the fact that i hated the lucy in it. i've played lucy on stage twice (the second time in a hideous pink frilly nightie - ugh!) so i get really protective of that part and hate seeing it done badly. georgie henley gained my approval though.

I'll definitel upload it then I absolutely get what you mean and I agree, Puddlegum is... Puddleglum... you can't replace Puddleglum! The Dawn Treader is also quite impressive for a low budget production and you can tell that they're actually out on the open sea, even for the scenes shot on the ship! eowyn of ithilien wrote: the only bbc version i've seen is the lion, the witch and the wardrobe and i really didn't like it (why does it always seem to be me putting a dampener on things?!). i can't remember much about it now, but i do remember my entire viewing being overshadowed by the fact that i hated the lucy in it. i've played lucy on stage twice (the second time in a hideous pink frilly nightie - ugh!) so i get really protective of that part and hate seeing it done badly. georgie henley gained my approval though.
I actually prefer Sophie Wilcox's Lucy over Georgie Henley's Lucy. I guess it's just a matter of preference
