I just watched the summary with clips from all the songs from the semi-finale of the Eurovision Song Contest... Which means a literal visual (yes visual) overload... During those 5 mins or whatever short time it was I've seen things no one is supposed to see at such a young age! :P Too many bright colours, odd singing, wierd costumes... my eyess, my eyesss!!! :teehee:

Eurovision Song Contest A.K.A Easterneurovision Song Contest

Well it must be said I was quite surprised by the fact there was no great stonking runaway leader as usual and that some countries had obviously fallen out with their neighbours as they didn't vote the same way as they normally do. But having said that, at least 95% gave the top scores to countries based on their geographical and political connections. It was quite funny when the UK gave Ireland ( :yuck: ) 12 points, because Graham Norton commented that now the rest of Europe knows how we feel all the time. :P That's the trouble when you're an island, you have to hope people vote for the song, because we neighbour no one.

I'd like Eurovision one year to be where no one knows who is singing what or where they've come from and they're not allowed to tour with the song or promote it, they're given a number, step behind a curtain and then sing. Interesting to see if the usual points would be given by the same countries.

Greece and Moldova were quite possibly, the worst of the night. Scratch that, Jedhead was. I wish they were here now, I'd love to go over their hair with a lawnmower. I quite liked Sweden and France was... different. The ones who won were OK, and I think it was Serbia, that was quite cheerful.

As Graham Norton said, most of Europe was probably hoping they wouldn't win so they wouldn't have to pay for next years. Good job Greece was so bad.

Thank God the BBC don't take Eurovision seriously, that's all I can say. If it did, I wouldn't watch. Graham Norton keeps me sane. :P

I just watched the Eurovision Song Contest as well. Sweden would have come second if it wouldn't have been for that last 12 pointer from Latvia to Italy. Not fair, haha! Oh well, third place is awesome too!

My favorite of the night was definitely Bosnia & Herzegovina. I think they received the most 12 pointers out of all the countries so to me, they were the moral winners.

The UK is just as guilty of the neighbor/buddy voting as other countries are. In the entire ESC history, you've given the most points to Ireland and they have, in turn, given the most points to the UK. Germany is the third country you've given the most points to and the UK is the second country that Germany has given the most points to. I'm not saying it's not ridiculous with the huge Eastern block these days, but we in the West are really no better.

I'm really happy that Sweden takes Eurovision as seriously as we do (we live and breath it here), because it's when you don't take it seriously that you end up with acts like the Irish Turkey, Jedward or Scooch.

It's not because the UK don't take it seriously that we don't do better - we generally do not give the other countries the stuff they like (we don't do things like middle-aged man strums guitar, or big stage filled with props or bang around the stage in big cozzies). We could have Take That (masssive, massive group in the UK, entire tour tickets selling out in like an hour) and they would probably wreck their careers after being on Eurovision.

We may be in Europe, but we don't have the same tastes as Europeans. And when we try (Scooch, which is not what UK talent should be about) even that fails. But then again, it is hard to believe other countries take it seriously, when you see what they exhibit.

You're right, we vote for Ireland and they vote for us. Not sure about the Germany one being anything other than they liked us those years and vice versa because I can't see a connection otherwise, but generally whenever someone votes for the UK, it's a shock.

The best acts for me are little or no gimmicks, and someone just sings. There were quite a few of those tonight, which was good to see. And when people do use props (like Sweden for example) they didn't overdo it. The unicyclist with the horn.... was a no no. :P
