i absolutely love it!!! i was really worried that they were gonna mess it up but they didn't, so woohoo!
i was really impressed with how faithful they were to the message of the book (like having aslan say "it is finished", which were jesus's last words) and for once i approved of the lucy (i've played lucy on stage twice, so i get really protective of that part). plus, peter's hot! or at least, william mosely is in real life - surprisingly stylish for a toff!
i can't wait for prince caspian - can't believe it's not being released until summer 2008.

It was... so so. It was a very good movie, and I am, after all, a Christian.
But... I can't help but compare it to LotR, like every movie, and it falls miserably short. Narnia is good, but not like really good. Just good.
Also, the LotR fans who totally forgot LotR and are now Narnia obsessed make me want to explode. And as a general rule, I don't get along with Narnia fans anyway. But that might just be because I know the wrong fans...

Well, as me being obsessed with Nanria, I've been a fan of it for about 2-3 years. Thus movie has really boosted up my Narnia fandom. But, It does make me mad, when ppl who saw the movie when it came out, and then they love it and are obsessed with it and thik they narnia's biggest fan, makes me mad. For someone like I, who has actually read the Narnia series 7 times, but unlike those who just watch the movie, and I dnt even pick up a Narnia book makes me sick.

Well...maybe insted of catching the flu from their fandom...try to encourage them to read the books? I know with LotR and Narnia, if someone's being uber annoying with their #1 fan chants...encouraging them to read more or study something more has one of two effects....1, the shush their chanting and back out of the deal, orrr...2, they actually do read the books and then are a more calm and well rounded fan, as it were. lol

I don't really care if fans are oldies or newbies, it's the whole fanboy/fangirl type fandom that comes with these type of films that annoys me to no end:
"lyk omgz orli iz so hawt omgz"

yeah, i've been in love with the chronicles for like eleven years and read each book at least seven times and it really does bug me when people are only interested in the film because they fancy the actors. even worse when they then try and claim that they're proper fans. i mean, i do think william mosely is cute (see my previous post) but that's just an added bonus, not a reason for loving the film.
and i also agree with truenarnian about people who think they're narnia's biggest fan cuz they love the film, but never bother to read the books. people that really get on my nerves. same goes for other film adaptations of books - it really bugs me when people try to show off their lotr knowledge then get everything wrong cuz they're going on the films. the books are always the real thing.

Yeah. I mean, there are alot of "Im just a fan of the movie" on this one Narnia forum I go to. I dont go there too much anymore (more on AU) because ppl are just annoying there and they probably think that I'm just a 'fan' of the 'movie'
except of course when I do the Narnia Trivia and get them stumped on books Questions

Well, I am always obsessing over random things. And when I do, I always try to make myself knowledgable. When I like a movie, I read the book. I loved NArnia, so I started reading the books.
The whole 'number one fan' thing...i guarantee that there is not one person here who is a 'number one fan' of something. There is always gonna be someone more devoted, and so it does annoy me when people think that. It's better to be the 'biggest fan' in a certain place, like most devoted of this forum or whatever.
The whole actor thing...it's nice to like actors. It brings people to watch more good films and things. I loved LOTR I watched it because it was in my house and I felt like it. Since then, I've been turned on to so many good movies and TV shows because I recognize the actors.
Narnia was not good just for it's actors. I thought they were really good, but not OH MY GOODNESS I'M IN LOVE. THEY ARE THE BEST! They were good in their parts. I more enjoyed the land of Narnia and the music and the whole feel of it.
As for comparison to LOTR making things obsolete *explodes* Open up people. You're never going to be able to enjoy anything unless you look at each thing as it's own individual piece of art. LOTR and Narnia are two very different things for two very different audiences. LOTR is an epic. That's why it's more ex extravagent. I'm saying this to help you see the light.
Oaky, I'm done now....so , yah. I liked the movies.

^ Yes, I totally agree that LotR and Narnia are two different things. I just wish everyone else would admit that, because what bothered me was when the media started billing Narnia as the next LotR, tricking people into thinking that what they were going to see was a lot more epic than it really was. Of course it was still a great movie on its own merit, but the LotR comparison going on was pretty disingenuous; just because the two movies are fantasy doesn't mean they'll be at all similar.
Skandar's too young for people to be running around screaming their heads off that he's so "hawt" anyway. The thought disturbs me greatly

Thank you Arwen. See people? Here we have the webmistress of our beloved and wonderful favorite LOTR site who is able to see the difference between the two . Ya, and Skander is a bit young. I mean, when Harry Potter came out and Dan was a young 'un I don't recall people running around saying that he was hot. He was just too young.

I 100% see a differnece between the two: NARNIA! and..LOTR
Narnia is more fantasy-kid like, for it was written for children, thats why Lewis wrote them as Children's books. But LOTR on the other hand is more gruesome and all...yeah...you get my point.
And..OMG!I know this is random, but your never gonna Believe this: They might publish new Narnia books! I saw an article about it on http://www.narniafans.com/forum
they better not..if they do..Im gonna scream my head off and demand them not to publish 'new' Narnia books..ok..im done *inches away*

*pokes* open this as a thread in literature....I'm sure it'll spark a good convo...but it's slightly off-topic here

i think most people can tell the difference between lotr and narnia, although there is absolutely no point trying to deny that there are similarities. lewis borrowed from tolkien and andrew adamson borrowed from PJ but that's just the way things go - it doesn't mean you to have to judge them on the same grounds.
and tbf, skandar's not too young for girls that are younger than him.

*smacks forehead* And LOTR borrowed from epic poetry. It's not borrowing from LOTR. It's the guidelines of an epic. People have a hard time understanding that. *has just had to read the Odyssey* All right, *goes to open a thread about epics in literature*
And we don't mean that skander's too young for s...but he's too young to be 'HAWT!' (i think that's what someone said) an i agree. HE's cute, and he's very close to my age. I'd say once they hit 16 or 17 it's okay. Before that, it's just kind of off.

lewis didn't just follow the guidelines of an epic, he copied stuff directly from tolkien. it's only understandable seeing as they read their stuff to each other all the time. it's also one of the things that tolkien got really naffed off about.
and you don't need to tell me tolkien borrowed from epic poetry - i'm not a complete idiot and i've read a lot of tolkien and a lot about him.
