Quote: Seven-six-two millimeter. Full metal jacket. So, I went through all the pages...and didn't find a thread on this. Has anyone seen it? I realize that many of the members are a tad bit on the young side...so, may not have heard of it. And it is a bit graphic. Ha ha ha....anyway. *cough* It's basically in two parts...the first about the ridiculously brutal basic training camp during the Vietnam War which kind of ends...on a very sad and...graphic note...and the second half is when the recruits are in Vietnam and they end by singing the Mickey Mouse song. Weird, I know. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else here is a fan, has seen or heard of it. *wanders off* Quote: This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of my enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Ack!
I adore this movie. Absolutely adore it.
Drill Sargent Emry just cracks me up. I'm maybe not supposed to find it funny, but his lines are just hysterical.
On a more serious note. It is a very powerful piece of film which shows some very harsh realities of war.

I have to agree, there are some VERY funny lines in this movie. ESPECIALLY from that Drill Sargent! Ha ha ha ha!
And I also agree that it is a very powerful film.

It's been one of my favourite movies for a very long time.
So long that I had no idea Private Pyle was Vincent D'Onfrio
He looked so different back then.

Yeah, same here. I hadn't seen it for a really long time until a few months ago. And I remember hearing that he, Vincent D'Onofrio (he be in my avvie! ) was in it, and thinking "No, no he wasn't." So when I saw it a while back, I was like, "Oh crap! He IS in it!" He really does look different! Well, considering he gained like 70 pounds and looks like a total creeper! Ahhh....*hugs Gomer * Ha ha ha ha ha!

ROFL
He was so awesome in it though. Very convincing of a young man who was driven over the edge. His final scenes break my heart and scare the living daylights outta me in equal measure.

Oh I know. He was brilliant! He was just heartbreaking! Oh, and his ending scene! Scared the crap out of me, and made me nearly cry at the same time!
^Ha ha ha ha...very, VERY creepy... Poor Gomer!!!^
How he pulled it off is beyond me.

"Wired" is an understatement. Ha ha ha ha. Anyway, the reason I really started this thread was because, the other day, I was browsing around Barnes & Noble...drooling over everything (because I'm a bloody poor college student who can't afford anything) and I came across this HUGE book on "Full Metal Jacket." Like the actual book jacket/cover thing was made out of metal. Ha ha ha. I basically spent HOURS pouring over it...ha ha ha...okay, well, not HOURS...but you know what I mean...ha ha ha...it was really interesting. It was basically a dialouge of the actors and director and such....about their memories about the show. I was really, REALLY tempted to buy it. But I didn't. I ended up going home and watching the movie. Ha ha ha.

Absolutely awesome. I have it as part of my eight-DVD Stanley Kubrick collection. And I also found Oliver Stone’s “Platoon” awesome, which came out roughly a year earlier (P 1986, FMJ 1987).
