Berlin Station is a new TV show along the lines of 'Homeland' mixed with the movie 'Snowden'. An etheral spy drama set at the CIA office in Berlin. I didn't expect to watch it, but since its lead-in show here on SBS was The Vikings, I ended up watching the first episode and was line-ball on it, even though Richard 'Thorin Oakenshield' Armitage was a main star as Daniel Miller. The second episode actually had me drawn in, so will likely watch this regularly and see if it continues to deliver. Here is a summary of the show...

Transitioning from his job as a CIA analyst in the U.S., cerebral officer Daniel Miller's new mission puts him under cover at the agency's Berlin branch, tasked with sorting out messy cases involving damaging leaks, whistle-blowers, terrorism and more. Mentored by jaded veteran officer Hector DeJean, Daniel learns the disorderly world of field work means dealing with deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital's hall of mirrors and discovers conspiracies that lead back to Washington, D.C., he wonders if anyone can ever be the same after a posting to Berlin.

Is this supposed to be taking place in present-day Berlin? Who’s producing it, and which distribution channel in Australia? With at least the need for synchronization, we tend to have a time lag until Anglophone series pop up here. And while not a few of the smaller private TV channels here (behind many of whom do still lurk the two large conglomerates) are loaded with such stuff (mostly of US origin, though), some give me the impression that they mostly get a hold of either fairly old stuff, or stuff that producers are willing to hand over for smallish change, as the ratings in the home market have not been causing the heavyweights to loose sleep. But even our public TV channels do pick up some series, supposedly those which cross a certain quality threshold (and by the way, the moon is made of green cheese …)

Screening on SBS in Australia (a public broadcaster)

*strikes noble and dramatic pose for the adulation to commence*

Thank you, Elora Starsong – I think. :yeahright:

I must confess that in Star Wars terminology, I place Google firmly on the Dark Side. :wary:

When it's easier to write a paragraph asking what something is rather than bothering to check for oneself....

The show has a great young German actor Mina Turner in it as Esther Krug.

Oh, I call up Wikipedia (E and G) pretty much every time I’m logged in on the Internet.

Mina Turner must be very young (or new in the business). German Wiki draws a blank on her. So does English Wiki.

THE Gandolorin prefers wiki over Google.... or IMDB... or... nevermind. It's a good show so far.
:bye2:

For visual media, librarians will use IMDB over Wiki for IMDB is more reliable than Wiki given the way in which information is collated for each source.

Google itself is not a source. It is a search engine, used to crawl across imprints of web sources in response to a search query. Formulate a good search query, you should yield good results for general searches like this.

Vitally important to remember that Wikipedia is crowd sourced info - this is critical, as it is prone to unreliable and incomplete entries as a result. As we've seen, IMBD has yielded more complete info than either E or G Wiki. Which brings me back to my first sentence.

:-D

I’m aware that Wiki has limitations. There have been enough (wood-pulp-derived) articles, books and TV documentaries pointing out how conspiratorial criminals (often single carbon-based entities with sufficient relevant skills and mercenary attitudes) can on controversial articles turn the content into something that the (thankfully) late Joseph Goebbels would be drooling over like a serious tsunami. To name the probable top three warfare-scorched areas: China, Dubya, Duhnald. But when I think of Google and the likes I would guess that the Watcher in the Water at the west Gate of Moria (having suffered a minor injury) survives to our days and is probably secretly the world’s richest cephalopod. :jedi:

But you have piqued my interest: what is IMDB?

Picky much, mate?

If you can't Google your own queries, you get what you get. Beggars can't be choosers.

Maybe my wife could tell me about this show if and when it does show up somewhere in German TV (I’m assuming it’s more along her line). So far, it appears synchronization is incomplete – or whatever …
