It will never compare to the original BBC production from the nineties... that one was amazing. If you've ever seen it, you'd know what I mean!

Come come people! I've heard that when it was first announced that PJ was making LotR, all the Ringers went nuts because they were absolutely certain he'd wreck it. AND they were horrified that he'd cast Elijah Wood, a young American, as Frodo. But look at how it turned out! Just give the new version of P&P a chance. If it stinks, you're perfectly justified in bashing it to your heart's content, but until you see it, I think it's only fair to give it a chance.

Arwen's got a really good point there. I'm going to wait and see it before I decide whether I like it or hate it.

I agree that she's a little too modern-looking, but I dunno...she could pull it off with the right script and director.

actually, there was a version done in the forties...
so the Colin /Jennifer version isnt the original (though its the best :D )

but the 40s version had a big boo-boo --- Lady Catherine was actually going to protest the engagement/marriage to elizabeth to see if she wanted to marry darcy or not

but i agree, i dont think this one will be very good (i'm not bashing it, thats just my opinion) and nothing can beat the BBC version

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG ON! Explain slowly.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY AS ELIZABETH BENNETT????
OKay... And who's Darcy?
I really enjoy watching Keira because she is so talented, but ... but something's wrong! Jennifer Ehle was soooo beautiful as Lizzy and who doesn't adore Colin Firth as Darcy?

So how long will the movie be?

Ugh.

Kiera Knightly, in every movie I've seen her in, takes the part of the "liberated woman", so I am NOT looking foward to this. With that in mind, and along with the "Elizabeth Bennet was a woman ahead of her time..."

WHAT?!

In the book, Lizzy WANTS to get married, but she wants a good man, not a stuck up idiot like Mr. Collins. :P

Plus, she's NOT a women's libber... she's just an indipendant, intelligent young woman. :)

And the new Lizzy looks like a pauper from how she's dressed, how thin she is, and how messy her hair is. :annoyed2:

:explode:

Yup, Colin is THE Darcy. I don't think anyone can compare to his portrayal...

I couldn't agree with you more. I love the book, and I think the BBC/A&E version is SO much better (besides the fact that when I first saw it, I fell in love with Colin Firth--mind you, I was about 10:P) This new one looks, alright. I just don't really know what to say about it...until it comes out and I've convinced myself to see it. But I will always love the BBC version. And I can't really criticise it until I see it then, can I? Well, let's just hope that its . . . alright.

I've never watched the BBC-version, I'm not really sure whether it was even published in Germany - but I'm looking forward to this movie. I like the trailer too. I fell in love with the book when I was fifteen and it was pretty hard to read for me in English at that time - but this book taught me English. I read it with a dictionary, I had to look up every second word - but it was fun!
