Sorry, if there is already a thread about this, but some people in the Return of the King book thread (or somewhere around it) were asking what The Princess Bride is about so I will post a summary/description thing of the book.

The Princess Bride
Westley . . . handsome farm boy who risks death and much, much worse for the woman he loves; Inigo . . . the Spanish swordsman who lives only to avenge his father's death; Fezzik . . . the Turk, the gentlest giant ever to have uprooted a tree with his bare hands; Vizzini . . . the evil Sicilian, with a mind so keen he's foiled by his own perfect logic; Prince Humperdinck . . . the eviler ruler of Guilder, who has an equally insatiable thirst for war and the beauteous Buttercup; Count Rugen . . . the evilest man of all, who thrives on the excruciating pain of others; Miracle Max. . . the King's ex-Miracle Man, who can raise the dead (kind of); The Dread Pirate Roberts . . . supreme looter and plunderer of the high seas; and, of course, Buttercup . . . the princess bride, the most perfect, beautiful woman in the history of the world.

Strangely enough, "The Princess Bride" is the ONLY movie that I like better than its literary counterpart. I don't really know why, but I just didn't like the book as well...maybe I should read it again though.

Thanks!

When I first saw the movie, I was like 5 and I got really scared when there was the really big rodent attacking Westley. I actually liked the book better than the movie. :)

i was ten or eleven when I saw it for the first time, and the R.O.U.S.s cracked me up because I had real rats. It was so ridiculous, heehee!

Just read the book for the first time this summer...it was a great read. Up on my favorites list! (just like almost everything I read...*rolls eyes*)

You know, I've really wanted to read the book ever since I saw the movie (which I love), but I just haven't gotten around to it. *runs to library*

Me too! I loooove the movie. I'm actually reading it right now. It's awesome. A bit different though. But funny in it's own way. But I think that I'm gunna have to stop to read Frankeinstein in a few days.

Oh, that is one of the best movies! And the book is pretty good too. I like the asides, and the fact that he never reveals that he is S. Morganstern is hilarious!

I love the film, and so I decided to read the book. I reserved it at the library, and it said it was on-shelf, but the librarian couldn't find it anywhere. My friend told me it wasn't as good as the film, and was spoilt by the editor-person commenting on why they'd abridged certain parts in the midddle. She thought it disrupted the flow.

So I haven't really bothered to try to find it again. Is it worth it?

I'd say it's worth the read, Herenya. I mean...after seeing the movie so many times, it was kind of funny reading the "novelization" of it, but it's so hilarious that it's a great book.

I loved the guys comments! And I think your friend misunderstood...see, he made up all of that about Morgenstein. (was that the name?) He really wrote it, not abridged it. So all that stuff in the intro about him abridging his favorite book...it's not true. He's just writing the story and making up as he goes along. I love it. :P

I love the movie but haven't had a chance to read the book yet. It's on the list though... :guilty:

Loved the movie. Loved the book. I've read this book I know 4 times at least. It's got everything in it, and it is so funny and so well written. I would LOVE to be able to write like that. It's one of my favorite books. It's definitely near the top of my list. It's one of those stories that I want to actually FORCE people to read. :-D

Oh I love both! I first fell in love with the movie and then read the book. I actually believed by the end of the book (but not at the beginning) that he was actually abridging it, so I did some research and found out it wasn't. But the first chapter of Buttercup's Baby makes me mad because I want to read the rest of it!
