^ Yeah, I've seen the sexist thing regarding Susan in TLB. I've also seen that JKR, in particular, thinks it's condemning her for being "sexually mature" or something to that extent. I thought, it's nothing to do with sex- she's more interested in make up and clothes and parties than Narnia, which she sees as childish. She's trying to be grown-up. She's not a street walker.

I wonder regarding Susan and her disbelief in Narnia. Did she totally forget or just repress her memories because she was trying so hard to be grown up? I find it extremely hard to believe you could just forget all of that. Pretend it was all make-believe, sure, but to forget?

All that aside... LWW is my favorite, although HHB is pretty awesome too, lol.

I don't think Susan forgot. I'm sure she remembered (it'd be rather hard to forget growing up in a different country as a queen) but she kind of repressed it. She saw it as childish, and maybe partially convinced herself that they had all pretended it. I'm not saying she thought the entire thing was, but I think that's what she told herself. She wanted to get rid of all her "childishness" and be grown up, so pretended that Narnia wasn't real. After all, when they are discussing her in TLB, they say something to the extent of "and when ever you try to talk to her about Narnia, she'll say 'fancy what memories you have, talking about those games we used to play as children!'"

Favorite book? So hard to choose! But most likely it's Last Battle. One, it has all the favorite characters of all the other books. Two, I love Lewis's description of heaven. Three, the entire book after Tirian enters the stable makes me laugh, cry, be amazed, etc every single time I read it. Just awesome.

I think LWW is most people's favorite because it's a stand alone story. You have new characters, a defined place but nothing has REALLY happened there yet, a clear plotline, and an ending. The others all tie in to it at some point, and it's better to read it as part of the series, but you can read it by itself and understand it even with never picking up another Narnia book. So most people start with it, fall in love with Narnia, and hence it is their favorite book because it introduced them. Which now makes me wonder how odd I am liking the book that ends the country...

I don't think Susan forgot either, I think she just chose to forget. She chose to remember Narnia only has a childish game they all played rather than something that actually happened.

I suppose it was harsh that she was the only surviving member of her family, but C.S Lewis said there is always the chance she would remember Narnia and Narnia would welcome her back.

I think the message is basically even though people grow up, you should never completely forget what it's like to be a child.

My favorite book is a tie between "The Voyage of the Dawn treader",and "The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe".After that I love "The Horse and His Boy",and then "The Silver Chair".But all the books were wonderful.:D :) I read them over and over starting when I fist found them when I was 7...so I've been a fan for eyars before the films came out..and always a Lucy Pevensie fan.:D

you want us to choose a favorite book? gee, well... I think Prince Caspian would probably be my favorite. (and not just because of the movie coming out ;)) but VotDT is VERY close too!

anyway, I truly think Susan came back to Narnia before the end... after going through everyone in her family dying I think that might've straightened her out and forced her to see what was real and what was just silly stuff that would pass. (it would me at least) And that's what the Companion to Narnia book basically says about her and C.S. Lewis' ideas for her too. Which I'm happy enough with considering she was always my favorite character and it made me feel so betrayed and upset to learn about her turn from Narnia.

my favorite book is HHB, followed by Silver Chair. *HHB is second in the poll, woohoo!*

the movies rocked in my opinion. I hope they make all of them, especially HHB. I really want to see Bree, Hwin, Aravis and Shasta. :D

VDT...As strange as it is, it was my introduction to the stories, and I just love all the themes and character development.

SC is a close second.

Mine is The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.

And no, not because of the movie, nor it's vast popularity in the literary world.

Because when I first read the series, YEARS ago, when I was a wee little thing, I read them all and ONLY liked LWW. Pretty much because of Edmund. I found myself (and still do when I reread it) that I identify myself with Edmund and know what he's going through...hence my love for the story. And besides, Mr. Tumnus owns. :P I have fond memories of reading the passage that Lucy first discovers Narnia and meets Mr. Tumnus. :D

For many reasons (mostly personal and religious) I dislike all the others. ESPECIALLY The Magician's Nephew. :yuck:

VDT was my least favorite *along with PC* because of the setting. PC and VDT had very little action in the books; the only part of VDT I liked was probably the Dufflepuds and the ending with the Lamb\Aslan. and the end becaues of course it ended the book! :p haha.

but I'm re-reading through the series a fourth time *sigh*; I love them each time I read them. SAd thing is, I have bits and pieces of HHB memorized *chapter 11 in particular*

@MB: I'msorry you dislike the series. I think they can be enjoyed by anybody even if their religion disagrees with lLewis' beliefs. I was recommended the books *can't remember if it was because how good they were or the religious parallels* but I didn't even make the connections the first time, and I was raised in a preacher's home. I enjoyed them mainly because it seemed like something I would absolutely do; I would completely want to go to a fantasy world like Narnia and reign as a QUeen. *who wouldn't???* I had to read them through the second time to catch any hint of religious symbolism...and I find now that each time I re-read them I find somethign new, whether it's religious or in the story that I missed before.

that wasn't a religious slam; just my opinion on my first time reading them. I read LOTR before Narnia and I must have been on a fantasy kick at the time, lol. :D
