I was kinda surprised when they released the title HBP, but now I'm used to it. I just want to find out what the Deadly Hallows are so I can get used to that and maybe it won't sound as weird...

Deathly Hallows... it sounds depressing. I'm dreading it and I can't wait at the same time. I mean... what if Harry dies? It's very likely... I don't know what I'll do then...
Hallows... I know I've heard it somewhere... oh yeah! All Hallow's Eve (or Halloween, as most people call it )
I'm going to look up the meaning...
There's no meaning for hallows, but there's a verb form...
hal·low vt
1. to make somebody or something holy
2. to have great respect or reverence for somebody or something
...hmmm. I'll have to think about this one.

Hmmm, interesting definitions Meltithenniel.
So if we base it off on that...
A place/person/or object is holy; however, it can cause death.
Now I've always that that because what occured in Godric's Hollow, it made the site very holy, it possessed that kind of feeling that nothing can marr the reputation it withholds.
Question; is Godric's Hollow a secluded area OR is it a town village where the people are wizards or muggles?

Well, it's a village for sure, but I'm not sure if there are all muggles or not--probably not if we're to assume Godric is Godric Gryffindor.

Well, I found out what Hallows are... they're just another name for prayer. So the deathly hallows... deathly prayers... which could mean two things:
*prayers that intend to kill
*prayers that are said after a person has died, maybe at a funeral.
Godric's Hollow also is very likely to be of great significance in the book. A hollow, geographically speaking, is a valley. So Godric Gryffindor obviously did something in that particular valley that the town commemorates by naming the town after him. And possibly, it could be something to do with these "deathly hallows"... maybe for Lily and James?
oh well.

To make holy...hmmm...
couldn't that also refer to Horcruxes? In a way they're deathly, because this is Voldemort we're talking about.

Anyway, thanks for posting instructions to open the door Elegost! I could never figure out how to do anything on her site lol

Same here, I'd click around a bit and got totally lost.
I agree with what some of you were saying here - personally, I threw HP5 across the room when Sirius died, and then I was so mad at JKR that I didn't even read HP6 until two months ago. I think it was two months ago. So if Sirius comes back I might not even care if Harry dies, I'll be so happy!

LOL I agree! I was sobbing for AGES when he died! I certainly hope he comes back!! *crosses fingers until next book is released*
I just wish JKR would give out the release date! I hate waiting!

Ooh, there was something really interesting I'd read that connected something in Arthurian legend with the word "hallows". It was an amazing theory that someone had put loads of time into, but I'm not sure if I can find it. Hold on..
LATER:
Found it! [credit to a member of the Leaky Lounge]
Okay.. "hallows" could refer to the four hallows of Aurthurian legend which are intimately connected to the grail and ultimately go back to the four treasures of Tuatha de Danann of Irish myth. The four hallows are the cup [chalice], the baton [wand], the sword [dagger], and the penticle.
If we connect the 4 remaining horcruxes [Hufflepuff cups, Ravenclaw wand, Gryffindor sword, and Slytherin locket] to these elements of magic then we can ultimately assume that "deathly hallows" is indeed refering to the remaining horcruxes.
Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

I love that! It works so well, and it's totally not obvious at all. JKR seems like the type to use it.
