I've read the first book and loved it. I'm a HUGE fan of the 1986 film version!

Wow! My fave was Rilla of Ingleside. The rest were good too. I hated Anne's House of Dreams. I also read one of the Chronicles of Avonlea books.

Why didn't you like 'Anne's House of Her Dreams'? I wouldn't say it was exactly my favourite, but I didn't dislike it!

I just reread Anne of Green Gables, I love these books. When I can find our copy of the second one I shall delve into it.

For those who'd like to know the order of the series, I believe it is:

Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Avonlea
Anne of the Island
Anne of Windy Poplars
Anne's House of Dreams
Anne of Ingleside
Rainbow Valley
Rilla of Ingleside

A good stand alone book by Lucy Maud Montgomery is The Blue Castle. Most people think it should be in the adult section rather than YA. The first few chapters are a little slow, but it picks up after that. I've read it 2 or 3 times. And you can't go wrong with the Emily series as well. :)

Or depending what country you are in, it's actually "Anne of Windy Willows."

Beware_of_Italics... yes, I love "The Blue Castle" too. Why adult? My friend read it when she was 12...

I love this series!I've read up to book six, and the library at my school doesn't have it, nor do the public libraries.

I only say "adult" b/c so many adults do read it and I've heard lots of people say that they think it should be in the adult section as well. (Don't know why, but I hear that a lot).

I also think I remember reading someplace that LMM didn't intend for The Blue Castle to be aimed at YA's. Don't quote me on that though.
