Okay, firstly I'd like to point out that I am not a major Twilight nerd. In fact, I read the books for those small portions where the interesting background characters appear. Like Emmett and Rosalie (I may be the only person in the world that actually thinks she cool), and now I'm adding Garrett and Kate and Leah to this list. Leah in my opinion is kickass.

I don't think SM is a memorable writer, her main characters are flat, boring and terribly predictable. Her descriptions are lacking and the good ones she has are overused. If I have to read the 'crooked smile' description one more time I might puke.

Now, onto Breaking Dawn....I hated it. It had such a huge build up and then fell flat on its face for the climax. SM breaks her own cannon universe rules to give Bella her perfect ending. My exact words after reading Bella was pregnant (after I stopped guffawing, of course) were, "Really, SM? What have you been smoking?"

Bella also becomes a huge Mary-Sue, I nearly cried when Edward pointed out how much more graceful she was than most vampires. It was such a terrible line. I wanted a clumsy vampire, that would have been great. Jacob's story was nice, if a little long.

I was disappointed that SM broke away from the whole 'if you want something bad enough then you must be willing to give up other things,' just to give Bella everything. I'm sorry, but life and fairytales don't work that way, someone has to lose something.

I'm not going to even start on the 'naming' of the child. Let's just say in my opinion Albus Severus has it easy, at least he has real names.

To me the whole Twilight 'saga' has been overrated from the start, I just don't get the obsession. I think it is because I read good vampire novels before this, and therefore my comparison is skewed. Now, that's my say and I'm sticking to it.

I totally agree with Darky and Maethoriel on this one. SM and her self-inserted Mary Sue Bella can take a hike. I just don't get this supposed phenomenon either.

So I read the book last week. And I thought, conclusion of the series. Should be all good and well, you know? Let's hope she isn't just riding out her success and turn a load of junk...She does. Major disappointment.

Okay, first of all, it takes Edward 90 years to realise his male apparatus works perfectly fine? Never mind the fact it shouldn't work, but the fact it takes him that long to find out. You're telling me Edward didn't even dabble? Come on, no one's that perfect. Well, monks and priests..but that's about it. No wonder he's so miserable. (Mods, feel free to edit this if you wish to)

Oh and when Edward was telling Jacob to do it for him? Very laughable.

*fast forwards Bella boring and uninteresting part*

Stop. Jacob's turn. To be honest, I don't know who I dislike more. Edward for being a sanctimonious obnoxious git. Or Jacob for being an abusive temperamental idiot. But I didn't mind Jacob too much in here.

*fast forwards Jacob somewhat exciting part*

Bella's baby girl. Okay, what is it with the inability to think of good names for character's babies? Using parents' name isn't that clever, you know. Try thinking of something original. This made me convinced Meyer here just rushed through this.

*fast fowards Bella-Mary-Sue part*

Yay! The Volturi are coming with their army. Bella has her little army of vampires. What are we waiting for? Oh, a completely flop. Call me a social deviant or whatever, but I really wanted to see a battle. Vampires tearing each other apart. Edward getting his pretty face scarred by a vampire, you know? Instead what do I get? The Volturi just turning tail and leaving. Major disappointment. Major MAJOR disappointment.

If I'm ever in a pyromaniac mood, I know which book to burn, that's for sure. My favourite characters didn't even get a major role. Hmph.

You know, we all seem to be assuming that SM wrote this. Are we sure some teenage fangirl didn't abduct her and write the freaking thing for her?

I've read better fanfic. Better Twilight fanfic, which is something I have read once and only once. And it was better.

Seriously, though. xD Edward lives for 90 years without ever liking someone. Shouldn't this be saying something?

... I think he likes mens and is just using Bella to get to Jacob. Honestly.

Mmm. EdwardxJacob would be verrry hot. :teehee: I completely agree with you, Shadowcat. Her writing is a joke. I certainly have read fanfic written a thousand times better.

I totally agree. After seeing the books everywhere, I started reading "New Moon" and couldn't bring myself to finish the whole thing. Meyer's writing was like nothing I'd ever read before. And I don't mean that in a good way, at all.

As for Breaking Dawn, I'm really not surprised at all with how Meyer ended things so perfectly for Bella, with a little baby and Edward and immortality and a fancy car and a quaint little cottage and no college and no worries. The "saga" seemed headed in that direction, anyway. I didn't expect much else. Honestly, it's clearly Mary-Sue fic, with such lines from the beginning of the series like, "If I hadn't saved you, if your blood had been spilled there in front of me, I don't think I could have stopped myself . . . And every day the perfume of your skin, your breath, your hair." Really, now. Ugh.

No, seriously, because Bella was the first girl who really caught his attention in 90-ish years. (Or however old he is.) I think Meyer actually said before that Bella was his first kiss. What I find fascinating is that he falls for her because she smells like freesias, and there are no other girls that smell soooooo good. Meh. A lot of the things Meyer wrote didn't make sense to me. :bye2:

I can't believe that Edward could be soo bored with all those lovely ladies around him.... and he just has to pick the angsty teen who keeps staring at him.

Other repetitions: Bella sighs a lot, and gulps a lot, and supposedly Edward growls a lot in his "husky" voice.

I actually thought Bella was a Mary Sue from the way beginning.

I agree. I recently talked to this Twilight fan, and she insisted, "But it's fantasy, so it doesn't need to be realistic. It's about wish-fulfillment." I can kind of understand her point and perspective, I suppose, so I won't argue with her.

Precious wrote:

Also, part of the reason why he was attracted to her (besides for her smell, of course), is that he can't read her mind. Apparently, he can read everybody else's mind except for Bella's. Isn't that convenient.

In Breaking Dawn, it's revealed that Bella has a special power (of course she has to have a special power, being so fabulously perfect) of being able to shield things, which includes her mind. This, I thought, was a part of the book that actually made sense - the mystery of her mind-privacy was properly wrapped up in a way that didn't contradict things from the previous books but, instead, reinforced them. I appreciate it that Meyer at least explained that logically. Honestly, I wasn't expecting her to.

Anyway, I'm so glad to see that many are starting to acknowledge some of the awful points of the book/series. For a while, I'd been only hearing about how "omg-good" they were. (That being said, I really like their covers. Which is partly why I noticed Twilight. Which proves the cliche, "Don't judge a book by its cover." I'll never learn). :bye2:

The shield thing made sense, but it also made her a Mary-Sue. Which is sad.

This in particular bugs me. I think there's nothing more selfish than for an author to write for him/herself. Like, you have to, to a certain point, but this was so disgustingly gift-wrapped it wasn't even funny. It's obvious that she didn't consider her readers in the least when she was writing this.

The thing that worries me the most is that Stephanie Meyer said that she intended this ending all along. Ouch. Really, Stephanie? Couldn't you have warned the rest of us that your plot was going to make us want to jump off a cliff (and not get saved by our werewolf friends)?

The only redeeming point to this whole novel was Jacob. I was never a Jacob/Bella shipper, but I've always thought Jacob was awesome, and it was so nice when he took over and we didn't have to listen to Bella whine anymore (may I just say that I really had very few problems with Bella before this novel, and then I couldn't STAND her in BD). Seriously, I had to put down the book several times during points with her perspective, because I just want to hit something.

I could rant on all day about this, but I'm just going to say two more things, and I'll be done, I promise.

I was so very disappointed that Jacob/Leah didn't happen. It was totally set up and then it was like "haha, got you! No love for Leah!" It would have been nice for once to have a normal relationship. Something that wasn't "fate" or "imprinting." Just two people who came together because they were hurting, and helped each other out. Why was that such a tough idea? As is, The whole Jacob/Renesmee thing made me freak out. It was at that point that I seriously considered throwing the book away. And before that, I had always set it down with the intention of picking it back up once I had calmed down, thinking it would get better. However, when he imprinted, I lost all hope for the book ever redeeming itself. And lo and behold, it didn't (however, Garrett was a very nice distraction).

I'm so glad that this will never be made into a movie. I mean, it CAN'T be made into a movie. Too gory, and it basically had no plot to speak of. I mean, there was no fight, there was no actual drama (other than the pregnancy thing, which still makes me wince to think about). And could you imagine the actors trying to take that on? Oh man. Kristen turning into psycho!Bella and doing nothing but lying around and being all pitiful, and then having her spine broken. Lovely. And poor poor poor Rob, having to like, eat into her stomach? Really?
