I was just using those two things as an example, he is following the whole mythological/other worldly magic stuff band wagon i'm not disputing that. Nor am I saying that he didn't incorporate other people's idea's. All I am saying is that perhaps he was just writing a story because he wanted to and when he was all finished with it he showed it to his parents. If his parents said that they thought they should publish it then who is he to say otherwise. I know it's his book and everything else but when others around you are telling you that your writing should be published and it's very good ect. ect. you're not going to consider changing it. For the most part. Not to mention that because he was not 18 his parents still had a lot of influence over the decisions that CP made. He wouldn't be able to sign any type of deal or agreement with a publishing company without his parents. I'm not sure on all of the legallities but his parents have to consent before he can. I don't remember it's something like that.
Every individual is different and would probably handle the same situation differently. I'm not saying he shouldn't have tried to refine his writing a little more and maybe incorporate more of his OWN ideas into it but when no one is pointing it out until well after it's being published then there is not much you can do about it at that point.
Random House was the publishing company that picked up the Inheritance Trilogy. just a little fun fact.

^ That's a good point. I suppose that, yeah, his friends and parents wouldn't be pointing out the many downsides to his writing.

Yeah, I mean who knows maybe only his parents read it before they published it and after it's published it's too late to go back and REALLY change it.

Then random house should of picked up on these blatantly copied things, I'm pretty sure that Saul Zantz could sue over these things... there are two names I think that are exactly the same. And I'm pretty sure CP didn't ask permission to use them, and if he did, then Saul better be getting some of the money being made.

^ Most definitely.
*sigh* CP and Random House just didn't think too clearly, now, did they.

I mean if nothing else. Random House should have said or done something or picked up on it....I think in the case of the publishing comnpany they were just eager to make a quick buck. But you can't really fault CP for corporate greed. I mean yes I know he used things from other stories and such but the company should have either not published it or have him go through major editing before publishing it.
