Books are generally always better than there movie counterparts. Da Vinci was no exception. But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well.
Still bummed we had no protesters, must have been too early for them to come out and look sour faced at people.

I'm in the middle. this is an absolutely brilliant book! the truths Dan Brown reveals about Christianity, the sacred feminine, and paganism are eye opening. he reveals the darkest secrets and conspiracies in the most innocent things. and all of them are either factual or believable theories. for example, I already knew a lot about mythology and ancient history, but Dan Brown connects them all in one big picture. completely fascinating, utterly riveting, and suspenseful to the extreme. Dan Brown is a genius.

Aye, I never see any movies without reading the book first, I like to be picky and find mistakes

I like to imagine the entire book plotline in my head before seeing how it contrasts/compares with the movie. otherwise, when I read the book I imagine it as it happens in the movie.
^was that even coherent?

lol, I understand you Lady Dark Moon. And i also can't picture the characters for myself, instead i get the movie peopple in my head.
But I did really like this book. It was really excellent, and the way he wrote it made it sound so unbelievably convincing, and the research that went into it was amazing! I've heard that the movie wasn't good at all. Apparanetly, when it premiered no one clapped at all and at the end when they were interviewing the critics theyall said something along the lines of "It's crap" Lol. So i'm just gonna wait until it comes out on dvd before i see it. But i loved the book though!

^ I don't trust the views of random critics too much - though when 80% didn't like the film it does seem like a bad sign. However I do find it worrying when critics who I generally agree with don't like the film.
Anyway I'm meant to be going to see it tonight so I'll see what I think.

You have to think which of those 80% have read the book, so understand what's going on.

I would imagine that a reasonably high percentage had seeing as it's such a best seller
But that shouldn't really be relevent anyway. A good film has to be able to stand alone from it's book and make sense and be enjoyed by people who havn't read it.

seeing the movie without reading the book must be better, because from what I've heard, the movie dulls in comparison with Dan Brown's brilliant novel. I can't imagine the research and resources he put into that book.

I found it really interesting to read the book because we had just learned about Heiros Gamos and the sacred feminine, and it all tied in with the book, so I read it at like the perfect time!

Ah, joining the conversation slightly late, I know...but it is a wonderful book - undoubtably Dan Brown's best work as of yet. I enjoyed reading the book itself, for the twists and turns that were unpredictable right up until the last moment, and the ingenuity of how he put his ideas together.
Went to see the film on Sunday as well, which...isn't anywhere near as good as the book - but manages to put it across well, I think.
Audrey Tatou was perfect for Sophie, I think. I love her acting, and I think she had the right balance of intelligence and innocence for the character.
I wasn't sure before I saw the film about Tom Hanks, because he does better in soppier roles...but he wasn't too bad really.
Thankfully, they didn't mess around with the book's story!
