Yeah. I mean, it's awesome to be a Tolkienaholic, but do try to make your own fantasy believable, you know? Or it's not fun to read because it's so similar.

The Silver Crown is a Tolkien takeoff.
Though it's set in our world, and our time. Though it's a really good book worth reading. I saw it at the library and saw on the back some one say it was a LOTR type novel so I shrugged okay sounds good. And it was a fairly good book. It can really draw you into reading more and more of it.

yeah, i'm completley out of things to read. A lot of books are going to be Tolkien take-offs in one way or another. Every book is going to some how be similar to LotR or any of his other books. Everything he has written is so expansive that its bound to be the same as some other fantasy books. It's inevitable.

Yes, particularly the Sword book. It's so full of parallels, it's ridiculous. I was pretty disappointed in it. The other books are a little better, though.
The one fantasy series I've read that is in no way a takeoff of Tolkien is Artemis Fowl - but it leans toward sci-fi so it kind of doesn't count,

how would artemis fowl be a takeoff of tolkien? there is no part at all that is like LotR except "elves" and "trolls" but everyone is free to use them; they are legendary fictional characters and everyone is entitiled to them just as tolkien was!

I can't think of any that haven't already been named. I totally agree with Eragon and Eldest (even though I still LOVE those books! ) - within the first 10 pages of Eragon I was like "Urgals? That's like exactly like Orcs!" However, I still don't think Harry Potter is anything like LotR. True, it's probably because I actually read HP BEFORE LotR, so I am a DEVOUT HP fan , but still, even if it was slightly inspired by LotR, it's so different, there's no way you could call it a copy. I mean, it's about a wizarding school! There's only a few wizards in LotR!
