I too fell in love with the books since I was young. They are really good! You can defentially see a wonderful series here. and I am not trying to brag but I've read the chronicles at least 3 times a year or once. They are so good I always see something new I never did see once in them. You can defenitally not get bored of them.

I have to say that I really only like the first 3 books...the other ones are OK, but just not the same. C.S Lewis is a brilliant writer though, and I can't wait for the movies!

I'm a huge Narnia fan, I read them over and over when I was younger. My favorite has always been The Horse And His Boy, though I'm not sure why... perhaps its because of the part where Shasta is walking through the fog, and all the while he feels Aslan on his side... that part has always really touched me.
I'm so excited for the movies too, my sister and I are planning on seeing it opening night. And I have cloak

Cloak - great idea! My friend, my brother and I wore our cloaks to see star wars, even if it was a few days after it came out. We were annoyed the idea hadn't occured to us when we went to see ROTK, you see...
I like that point in the Horse and his boy, too, and the part with the "cat" when he's waiting by the tombstones, though the latter is more interesting.

Heh. I didn't have a coak for RotK either. My friend is going overseas for a year, and obviously she couldn't take everything with her, so she's lending me her cloak for a year It actually kind of reminds me of the Fellowship's cloaks, because its grey... and yeah thats about the only reason
When I was younger I watched the BBC versions, and I loved them despite their horrible special effects. I was really glad to see that WETA would be doing the special effects for these new ones, because if the rest of the movie is a complete bomb, its guaranteed that at least the effects will be cool.

I love Narnia! When I was about seven or eight, my family read them aloud. Rad and my favorite character was Reepicheep. Then we watched the BBC movies...and I just adored them. I still do! We watched part of Prince Caspian the other day.
My friends and family and I are going in costume to the opening as well! Our costumes: The Lion, the Witch(me), the Wardrobe (heehee), Lucy, and Reepicheep. Maybe Puddleglum. Should be really fun!

I love The Chronicles of Narnia. I haven't gotten around to reading them again. I have the set, but I got into LOTR, and I haven't gone back to Narnia. I will now.

Hehe, I get chills every time I see the trailer too, Nie. I think its like 110 or 109 days now or something (no I'm not counting down or anything, I just saw a counter on a website a couple days ago).
SO steering this thread back towards the books, which character is a hero to you or who do you respect greatly, and most importantly why. None of these lame post that just say "I love Aslan, he's so cool." No, please actually support your answer (haha, english class!) with perhaps specific instances in the books, or general characteristics that the character possesses. Please answer this thoughfully, I really want to hear why you love these characters... in detail!
*takes off evil english teacher glasses*
I'll be posting my answer within the next few days, I want to think about this one a little bit so I can give a good answer

*protests* But, but - I do love Aslan, and he is cool! End of story....
nah, But seriously, how can I pick just one character?
I'm really torn, because there are a lot of heros.
I'd say Shasta, just because some of the things he does takes so much courage (like staying by the tombstones at night), and Edmund and Eustace because they both made mistakes and had the courage to admit that they had been wrong. I guess a lot of the characters in Narnia do things the deserve respect, but in many ways I think it's doing something wrong, and then being able to admit that, and work to make up for it, takes more courage than doing the right thing from the beginning.
However, you also mention "characters you love", and the characters I have upmost respect for are not necessarily the ones I love. Though, talking of respect, I'd say I'd have a lot of respect for Peter - especially as a source of authority, but it's just because of who he is. I think ... wandering here, but I always see Peter as the golden boy. I think he's just charismatic - I certainly couldn't pinpoint it down to one particular thing that he does, or a characteristic. He's just a born leader, and I feel that that is really conveyed throughout the story.
I was talking about favourite characters - I think I've always felt quite strongly about Lucy and Jill, because they were the characters I identified with. They were the characters I put myself in the shoes of, and felt sympathy for. I'd say I have more incommon with Polly, but surprisingly enough, I felt more strongly about Digory. I think it was because of his mother. He had more to lose or gain than Polly, he'd made more mistakes and learnt from them, so I think he grew a bit more as well. I'd have to go back again and read it again to really say. Oh, yes, and I was really taken by Aravis when I read the Horse and his boy. I thought she was cool.
Then there are the characters who just have great personalities. Puddlegum, for instance. The pessimist. I'm a bit on the pessimistic side, so I could see where he was coming from. And Trumpkin - he was a character! He just had his quirks that made him interesting. And Bree, I guess because he was a horse, and that was motive enough to like him.
And that's ommitting a couple of characters I just really liked because I just liked them, like Trillion and Jewel. I find myself more interested in those too, I think reading again, because they are closer to my age now than, say, the Lucy who first walks through the wardrobe. (And I was always attracted to Rilian, but I'm so not going there! )
I could probably keep on going on and on. Can I conclude that they are just a fantastic bunch of characters, and I haven't lost the 8 year olds desire to want to go there?
(lol, Jenny, enough detail for you?)

A Narnia thread? OH JOY! YAY! Okay, my favorite books in the series: all of them, except Prince Caspian, the Silver Chair, and the Last Battle.
My favorite characters are Lucy, High King Peter, King Edmund, Shasta, Bree, Aravis, Aslan (of course!), King Caspian, Reepicheep, and Queen Jadis. Love to hate her. I love the rest of the characters as well, but I obviously can't name them all. That'd be ridiculous. Never really liked Susan though...
I'm a Lewis purist, so I'm apprehensive about the movies. I fell in love with the books at a young age, and decided that I wanted to live in Narnia. Shh... dont' tell anyone, but if I had to chose to live either in Narnia or Middle-earth, I couldn't chose. That's why Aslan made me the Keeper of the Wood Between the Worlds. LOL!
You all have cloaks? Really? So I'm not alone! YAY! I'm in the process of sewing one. Queen Lucy couldn't have asked for better. The material I have for the outside is crushed velvet, midnight blue, and the lining is silvery white satin. I can't wait til I finish my tunic so I can keep working on it! I'd wear my cloak to be to the movie, but I don't go to movies... But I would if I did!
Okay, I'll end now.
P.S. Have any of you read Lewis' Sci-fi trilogy?

Sounds like a beautiful cloak.
I haven't read the trilogy, but I keep meaning to. I have a friend who's named after one of the characters, I think from that series.

Hello everyone ,I have not read any of the Chronicles of Naria books, at least I don't remember reading them. I found an old copy of the first book " "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". I am going to start reading that along with "Return of the King", and either"Pride and Prejudice" or "Sense and Sensibility" - I am still trying to choose. I just love books!

Nienor: THank you, I'll tell you how it turns out. Is your friend's name Ransom? He's the main character of the trilogy.
