WHY IS THERE NOT A THREAD FOR THIS ALREADY????

Potential Spoilers Ahead

Seeing as HBO's GoT first series has come to an end, and I don't want to spoil what happens in the following books for the TV watchers only. Plus Book 4 is coming out imminently so I figured aSoIaF deserves its own thread....

So who here has read any of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, and which has been your favourite book so far?? What about your favourite characters- are there any you liked or disliked to start with, but your opinion of them has changed? Or are there any characters you wish weren't infuriatingly killed off... or maybe there's some you wish dead *cough*JOFFREY*cough*?

And who's excited for A Dance with Dragons????

I am old fanatic of ASoIaF, I think I started reading it 6 years ago  I am in love in this series! I think all the plotting, characters and intrigues are perfect and even if you don't like someone, you still can say its well developed thing/character.

My fave so far are Petyr Baelish (yay for Slytherin!) and Asha Greyjoy, which is pretty darn most interesting and full-mouthed character of whole saga.

I am thrilled about Dance of the Dragons

Oooh you're a veteran compared to me, I hadn't heard anything of the series until HBO adapted it, then I felt it would be better to read AGoT first , and I've been hooked since! I'm nearly done with A Storm Of Swords, so hopefully i'll be able to to read A Feast for crows before Dance with dragons is released. :D

I think ASoIaF will gain a lot of new fans now, while GoT is in TV  Before it was less known series and in my country always few internet people knew about it. Now the love will spread ^^

I am making site about these books, maybe you will be interested in forum joining while it will be on? I would PM you :)

I think it's the same here in England, just it's been hugely overshadowed by LotR and HP until now :D

I fear of reading them because of the over violence and scenes of sexuality :/ .

Eh, the violence and sex really isn't as gratutious in the books as it is on the show (not bashing the show because I adore it along with the books, just stating a fact). Plus, really, the sex in the series often isn't even about sex, but rather power or greed or convenience or what have you. Personally, I think that even if those sorts of scenes aren't your cup of tea the books are definitely worth reading because of Martin's amazing grasp on the complex, believable characters, and the incredible way he constructs this fantasy world. But if you don't think you can or would want to tackle them, that's cool too. I totally understand they're not for everyone :)

I know he made a point with both and the series and books are loved by many even some of LotR actors are fan of Martin's world. I might try reading it with all of the darkness within -LOL and I thought The Children of Húrin is so dark- I shall try read them. :)
